"Don't take my loverly soft bed away"

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE064.jpg

Setting Off

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE015.jpg

A quiet night at Bein Glass campsite, Loch Lomond before the hilarity began (Please note Shep the Welsh flag proudly on display:rolleyes:)

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE068.jpg

On the way up

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE078.jpg

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE080.jpg

The Tosser greeting upon arrival at GC's

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE083.jpg

"I'm not going to succumb to temptation"

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE091.jpg

A few later and "Perhaps it wasn't a Welsh flag afterall"

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE094.jpg

En route to Oonyakistan, photo op at Loch Garry

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE116.jpg

"Better check my anti-Shirtlifter device" :augie

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE121.jpg

The happy campers

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE123.jpg

"If I press this button, the seat raises and lowers"

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE126.jpg

"And if I connect all this complicated equipment, the suspension works too !!:D

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE125.jpg

A little smile whilst checking out the up-the-kilt shot ;)

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE149.jpg

ScottBoxer trying to make a fast escape

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE127.jpg

"If only I can find a way through all of this, I'll be free and not have to drink ever again"

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE128.jpg

"We'd better have something to eat before the sampling, lads"

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE130.jpg

Mutley tongue in cheek, the rest a bit subdued after the previous night

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE131.jpg

"I don't have to have another dram, do I ?"

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE132.jpg

"I won't slip on that banana skin if I leave it safely up there"

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE133.jpg

Floyd looking seriously dubious about the whole affair

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE135.jpg

And later that evening... "It's only when I get the red mist that I can do those powerslides"

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE139.jpg

"Oh no, Shirtlifter's not done it again, has he ?"

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE151.jpg

"I'm sure this can was full a second ago"

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE172.jpg

The culprit

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE173.jpg

Shirtlifter getting the urge

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE176.jpg

And how many did you get ?

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE175.jpg

The craze started to catch on

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE186.jpg

Some people started to get very excited about this new craze

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE193.jpg

Until they got a little too carried away by all the fun

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE194.jpg

"No, no ! Not you too !"

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE184.jpg

"Phew I can hardly see it through one eye"

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE185.jpg

For some, a little rest was in order

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE203.jpg

Two drinks later, and the red mist is upon Forry

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE181.jpg

Ronno looking rather serene

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE199.jpg

Our wonderful hostess doing a far better job of looking serene

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE201.jpg

Our contribution to the recycling initiative

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE196.jpg

And all too suddenly, it was time to pack and go home in the rain

DAVELEAVINGFORSKYE211.jpg

Thank you to our wonderful hosts for their unrivaled hospitality, to the locals for having us, welcoming us and partying with us, and all the Tossers who made this a fantastic weekend.

Cheers,

Part 2 The Dash to the Western and Northern Extremities

SWMBO came up to Glasgow by train on the Monday, which was her birthday and her command was to eat at The Drovers. So down to Glasgow Central to pick her up. The weather was looking none too kind.

holidaytobonniescotland017.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland019.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland024.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland026.jpg

Then it was off to The Drovers for dinner. An ancient and interesting old pub with great grub and some strange eating companions, one even having two heads

holidaytobonniescotland048.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland051.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland053.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland054.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland056.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland057.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland060.jpg

The inn is reputedly haunted...

holidaytobonniescotland064.jpg

The next day was onwards and upwards through Rannoch Moor and Glencoe.

great pictures m8,:thumb
i must buy a proper camera one day and take some cool pictures like those above..

oh just spoke to kevin, could you photo shop some pictures with him in them ?
and take some of the grey hair and replace it with a darker colour hence making look a little younger:D:D:D

note to myself i must not stand on chairs and try and dance after drinking silly amount of beer:D:bounce1

Then onto the Corran Ferry which is only £1.50 for a motorbike, amazingly enough

holidaytobonniescotland134.jpg

The new and fast road to Strontian

holidaytobonniescotland139.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland145.jpg

I spent my childhood summers here in this chalet, The Old Smithy, Salen which was an exhibit in The Great Yorkshire Show in the 60's. It was then transported by truck to Salen, where it remains until this day.

holidaytobonniescotland146.jpg

And the view over Loch Sunnart

holidaytobonniescotland147.jpg

This used to be the general store where they had everything including a petrol pump outside. Now sadly it is all gone, the locals having moved away to find work and the houses are now mostly holiday homes, the village nearly deserted and a shadow of it's former self. A nice wide road and big bridge (if any of you remember the tiny bridge with a tight bend in it)

holidaytobonniescotland148.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland149.jpg

Glenboradale Castle

holidaytobonniescotland230.jpg

And the road out to Kilhoan and Ardnamurchan Point, the most westerly point of mainland Britain.

holidaytobonniescotland160.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland202.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland204.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland215.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland225.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland159.jpg

Arnamurchan Point, the Westernly point of Britain with views of the distant Oonyakistani Empire, the searchlight tower and warning horn in case of the Oonyakistanis invading.

holidaytobonniescotland182.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland186.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland193.jpg

Then it was back, through Aharacle and up to Glenuig and the inn there, where refreshment awaited the chauffeur

Thanks. Nothing photoshopped. It's a Fuji Pix point and push thing but it does taking some pretty reasonable shots. Perhaps one ofthe other gents will oblige ?? :thumb

Its great that so many folk have taken the time to take then post up so many photos, not just of the event, but of their journies there and back. Like everybody else's posts over the last week, I have enjoyed all photos and especially the comical comments. :thumb

I bet all those that didn't make it wish they had.

Iain

I bet all those that didn't make it wish they had.

Yup...:(... Next Year, if I can get a Visa in time...:augie

Pog, did you have a silver 1150 Adventure before the 1200?

Only we saw the above bike outside a hotel on Mull a couple of weeks ago with the Signature Line on the bottom of the reg plate that said something similar to "Pog o thon"...:nenau

Final Installment

The next day, after any early start and pot of coffee, we had a couple of obligatory touristy photo stops.

holidaytobonniescotland245.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland255.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland267.jpg

Nest we had to ride past the Applecross turning. Time was too short as we had an appointment (more of that later), the cloud cover was too low so it would have been pointless and the weather was terrible, so we pressed on.

holidaytobonniescotland277.jpg

The weather got worse and we realised we didn't have time to do the Gairloch route, so it was fast forward to Stourie and beyond for probably the best days riding I've had.

holidaytobonniescotland283.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland294.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland309.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland318.jpg

Costa Del Durness and other beaches

holidaytobonniescotland335.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland342.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland344.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland352.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland362.jpg

The next night was spent at the Tongue Hotel which is highly recomended, especially after a day in the rain and wind

holidaytobonniescotland372.jpg

The next day, well rested, fed and watered, we set out. We had been warned of stormy conditions, high winds with gusting up to 55mph, but there was nowhere to go aprt from onwards.

holidaytobonniescotland380.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland404.jpg

holidaytobonniescotland405.jpg

We then got to Dunnet Head, the most northernly point of mainland Britain, where one of us had to hang onto the bike at all times. The wind was so strong that it threatened to blow the bike over unless one of us was hanging onto it at all times.

holidaytobonniescotland416.jpg

A short but extremely buffeted blast brought us to our next photo stop. The Famous and understandably deserted, under the weather conditions, John O' Groats.

holidaytobonniescotland427.jpg

From then on, it was a hellishly windy ride taking all my concentration and strength to keep the bike upright. The only interesting bit was the Helmsdale down and upper. We blasted down to Perth where we stopped the night in a B&B, had a fantastic breakfast, and where I managed to put an 8" burn on my left leg on the heated towel rail that was positioned too close to the cludgie where I was dumping

Anyway, fast forward to the penultimate point of the trip : Farmer Palmers where SWMBO picked up her immaculate new black plaything. From there on it was homeward bound. Wish I was still out now :thumb

holidaytobonniescotland446.jpg

You'll need to get a bigger helmet to fit the young ladies smile in:clap:thumb

Great report Pog/David.

Thanks for sharing the photos - its useful having a pillion passenger with a camera, we get to see the views we wouldn't normally stop for.

Good to meet you in Oonyackistan.

Bob.

An excellant slice of life. :clap

But could have done without knowing about your burning leg toilet habits :D:D

Love the pics:thumb2 Was going to take a trip over to Applecross, but after seeing those warning signs I ain't so sure!!
Durness is such a lovely spot, think there's a festival on there soon in memory of John Lennon, as he used to go there when he was a wee boy.
Drovers' Inn...scary place!!! You were a brave man staying there!!

Great pics ...

Smashing write up Dave. The swallie avoidance technique failed miserably at my pal's anniversary do next day ... :blast
