PRESS RELEASE

Women Bikers Ride Out for Charity

Fortunately, raising money for the Breast Cancer Campaign is not that
unusual. Nor is making the journey from John O'Groats to Lands End whilst
being sponsored for charity. However, put four women motorcyclists
together and discover that they are intending to make this journey in just
24 hours, and you will see why this particular sponsored ride is worth
taking notice of!

In the UK, one woman in nine will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
Each year, 41,000 British women are newly diagnosed and on average 12,990
women will die of the disease - this is one of the highest death rates in
the world. Of the four women intending to ride from John O'Groats to Lands
End, three of them have been directly affected by breast cancer and one of
them, 43 year old Gill Whitworth is a survivor of the disease. Group
organiser, Marion Costin-Ford says, "We have all experienced the trauma of breast
cancer through family and friends, and since we decided to do this ride, we
have been made aware of just how many people are affected. The response has
been overwhelming with already nearly £1,000 already pledged by club members alone. We want to
dedicate this ride to Breast Cancer Awareness and hope that people might
make a small donation, support us – maybe with refreshments or a tank of petrol on the way
- or just waving at us to keep us going!"

The idea for the ride came from Marion, 45, and her fellow GS Owners Club
member, Lucy Rea, 37, both of whom have relatives currently being treated
for breast cancer. The GS Owners Club is for owners of BMW GS model
motorcycles who keep in touch with each other with regional meetings and
exchanging news and views on the website. Marion, Lucy and Georgia Watson,
47, are members of the club whilst the fourth, Gill Whitworth is Merchandise
Manager at a BMW motorcycle dealership.

The women, from Rutland, Worcester, County Durham and Milton Keynes will
ride up to Scotland on 21 April. At 9.00am on Friday 23 April, they will
begin their journey, aiming to arrive at Lands End at 9.00am on Saturday 24
April.
