XChallenge quick reference thread.

brake discs

I ordered a Grimeca brake disc for the rear of the bike last week but it did not fit and was returned.

Next stop was the EBC website where they list the MD810C, unlike Grimeca this is a different part number than the old F650GS. I ordered this one from brakes4u.co.uk, it arrived the next day and went straight on. :thumb

Take care though. The EBC direct website lists the correct disc in their down-loadable spreadsheet but if you go through online ordering on the website the part number that comes up is the disc for the F650GS.

Have you contacted the suppliers who have to wrong listing and told them that fact?
I try to do this as much as possible to help future punters, which may be you again one day......:thumb2

The original story went on here about 3 ish years ago,
the engine consumed itself at 22k ish.(two months out of warranty)
I re built it with a scarver engine parts and ran it to around 78K,then striped it for spares and sold the rest for scrap.

I bought another 07 model low mileage,
striped the engine and made some modifications using a 2001 dakar engine for parts.
I'd buy another one but the wife won't let me.
I only have three other bikes, but the wife said ''one in ,one out'' from now on .

Swing Arm Bearings

Having just done them, this is what I needed

Swingarm -

Offside
  • Seal 30 37 4
  • inner ring race 25 30 30
  • bearing 30 37 26 (closed at one end)

Nearside
  • Seal (x2) 25 32 4
  • bearing (x1) 25 32 26
  • shim (x2) 25 40 2.5 bmw part 33 17 7 696 797

2nd time I've done a full set, and still a total pain in the a**e!

Wheel bearings should be sealed. For other applications a good waterproof grease :thumb2

Morning peeps, a bit numpty perhaps but is there a service schedule for longer term stuff, I'm specifically thinking about replacement of the water pump and timing chain tension?

:::.Edit.::: this post has been copied here from this thread.
=====================================

It seems that I didn't send the new owner the invoice for the parts, after all. So I've no idea what I've done with it.

However, the good news is that I did keep the PM from John Nicholson with the required parts list:

CLUTCH HOUSING COVER 11 14 7 700 331
GASKET 11 14 7 700 194
NEEDLE SLEEVE BEARING 21 21 7 701 501
NEEDLE SLEEVE BEARING 21 21 7 700 120
SHAFT SEAL 21 21 7 700 173

If you want to 100% sort it I normally change the shaft as well :

OPERATING SHAFT 21 21 7 700 306
CIRCLIP 21 21 2 343 258

I got the parts from John Clark Motorrad in Dundee. It took a few days for them to source them from Germany.
