Happiness is

I reckon on about 135kg dry for the 610 and not a lot more for the 630 once you dump the horrendous twin exhaust and as for fuel consumption I haven't a clue what my 610 used to do but it seemed dead reasonable to me - anyway, that's splitting hairs :D just pointing out there are other bikes out there (in a none too serious way) and as Mikeyboy points out, sorted they are very good bikes indeed - IIRC the only bike to have no issues on last years TATeas a 610?

Anyway, I have to believe in them as I used to have a 610 and have my eye on a tidy 630 from an esteemed member of this site that I want to 'overland' :)

Fair enough, I was quoring factory specs (ready for the road) which surprised me they were so high

If you're going to shed weight, by junking stuff, then you could do that with any bike:D

I think a G650X Challenge would be more than equal and maybe better than a TE630 by some margin

Anyway it's all academic and not worth spliting hairs over:thumb

You wouldn't want to ride one far though:D

TE610 54 bhp and 154kg

TE630 55 bhp and 163kg

So heavier and similar power, Andres.................killer though is only 44mpg v the G650X returns 60 mpg + and over 70mpg in a lot of cases

No way could i ride either of the above, with the seats/razors :eek :D

Wot an easy bike to work on, great with my u/s hands / arms, few allen scrwss and it's naked.

that will stop the engine paint from vanishing ;)

Nice one Ash, great little bikes. I've got one next to my 1200GS but suspect the next long trip will be on the XCo.

I've put on the Isotta screen, good improvement. Just had the Ally frame welded at the rear joint. Suspension is next and will probably go for Yacougar. Small tank, so adding an Acerbus Auxiliary tank(or maybe 2). Fitted a bigger bash plate replacing the XChallenge one which was on it.

Interested in Mikeboy's suggestion of an Acro. What's the advantage? When I had my 1200 done at Hilltop, Geoff said he'd get the same improvement whatever exhaust/can was fitted.

Anyway, enjoy the new bike!

Had my '07 remapped by Geoff at Hilltop, with the standard can with Kat removed. Great improvement :thumb
Went back down for a quick check after I fitted the BMW full Titanium Akrapovic exhaust system (two months old age pension) :D

Hope to post the before and after charts this evening ....

What the charts don't tell you is by how much nicer the 'bike feels, so much smooooother, pulls soooooo much nicer .... BUT I don't think it's any quicker than stock, but feels so much nicer :thumb

Pulls like a steam train ..... an amazing little 'bike :clap

:beerjug:

Do they remap x challenges ? If so might go down that route instead of a PC

I like this thread..... because I got a Xcountry yesterday too.

I think I am going to have some fun. :bounce1

With apologies to Ash for a possible 'highjack' ... but I think he's aroused a lot of interest in one of the more underrated bikes to come from the BMW stable.

D'ya know that when they were introduced they were really too expensive for the market so never really took off :nenau

D'ya know that, fr'instance, the rear brake pedal pivots on a sealed ball bearing and not some crappy grungy plain bush, like the rest of the range

So being a 'keeper' I took mine down to Geoff at Hilltop Engineering ...

As standard, first run ...
Power 39.27 bhp at the rear wheel @ 7,135 rpm
Torque 28.92 ft lbs @ 7,125 rpm

Remember, this is a cooking 650 single with a claimed 54ps at the crank

Initial%20run%20as%20standard-L.jpg

Initially the bike was running very weak. The power and torque curves all over the place. After Geoff had finished tweaking we now have ...

Power 44.25 bhp @ 8,347 rpm (an increase of 4.98 bhp or 12.68%)
Torque 33.08 ft lbs @ 5,789 rpm (an increase of 4.16 ft lbs or 14.38%)

Third%20and%20final%20run-L.jpg

An increase in torque of 14.38% but at 1,300 rpm LESS :thumb

Then I fitted the BMW Akrapovik titanium exhaust :D

Power 43.05 bhp @ 7,735 rpm (a loss of 1 bhp but now at lower revs)
Torque 36.69 ft lbs @ 3,096 rpm (an increase of 3.61 ft lbs at 2,600 rpm LESS)
This is over and above Geoff's final run.

Scan-130824-0001-L.jpg

The exhaust gives a flat plateaux (and increase) of torque all the way from 2,500 to 6,000 rpm

OK, one less BHP though :blast

Loadsa fun :D

:beerjug:

Mind you, If I had lost a couple of stone it would have had the same results and been far far cheaper :rob

Micky I can't believe the full Akro system has resulted in a loss of power?? Still pretty good increase over stock I suppose.

Micky, Thanks for that and to Ash for triggering this discussion, impressive figures, particularly that plateau of chunky torque starting with low revs. I'll have to give this some thought. I also believe I'd heard that the Acro a bit lighter than the standard exhaust which would be another plus.

One BHP ... but the air temperatures on the two days were vastly different. Geoff said it was of no consequence. The Akro makes the 'bike feel so much sweeter, but at virtually two months state pension it should do :rob

Much much lighter, but then a cheaper option would have been for me to lose a couple of stone

Carry on , young man :kissy2

Discussion is good and the more us newboy's to the G650X gleam from you that have had them a while and realized how good they are, the better.
Now i have one and will not have to pay more for it as they get snapped up and rarer ;)

Mine at Alton today, in the wet :blast

Touratech chain guide (adapted KTM) if you are in the situation where you're limping home with a well worn chain, it stops the chain coming off the sprocket. I've had this happen

Oh ... and don't forget. Good tip :thumb

If you ever have to jump start your Xcountry (or Xchallenge for that matter)
DON'T be taking the side panel's off to get to the battery :nono

Earth lead from t'other battery to an engine mounting bolt, positive lead from t'other battery, your ignition on, positive lead to the bolt on your starter motor underneath the plastic cover ... will spin your engine over and start it without you hitting your starter button :nod

Sorted
