Weathers kinda nice - time to ride!

After a good soaking up north 2 weeks ago I needed a dry run. And today was the day.

Another early alarm had me on the road at 0720h heading south to “do” Dumfries & Galloway.

Last year my planned route was thwarted by a main road closure and today included yet another couple of road closure detours.

However, the temperature reached a stunning 18 degrees so all was well.

Tripped over a handy wee shop in Straiton that had coffee & croissant plus an outdoor table. A luxury breakfast stop. Plus a public loo across the road.

World Traveler now a happy bunny.

Tootled my way around a lovely figure 8 course taking in the A70, B741, A714, A712, back up the A713 with picnic at Loch Ken.

Watching a growling water ski boat do it’s thing.

More A70, A76 and of course up the A702 (what a great stretch of road that is).

Roads very quiet. Lots of bikes going the other way.

Only 1 Twat in a Range Rover tried to come back at me as the crawler lane ran out. He failed.

Recently fitted tyres are well scrubbed with another 314 miles today.

Home in time to entertain the 2 youngest members of the clan in the garden.

ps - the helmet had already been washed twice during the day.

Great ride out to Ardreck Castle from Aberdeen on Staurday via Loch Shin. Then home via Ullapool and the lovely A835. No rain and the flies are certainly out, so the swallows will be feeding well.

One point of note, the police are now using "LF" and "LG" as the first letters in their registrations in the north / north east. "LG" was checking the speed of vehicles at the Glens of Foudland and the "LF" will be looking for a new set of tyres / brake pads / undies as they had to do an emergency stop as someone stopped for them on a blind bend on the A835 when they had their covert blue flashing lights on :blast Both were dark BM estate cars from memory. So they're not just using "SF" cars anymore.

Don’t know what the dictionary declares a load of campervans to be, but after todays ride I’d call them a “Clot”. Saw more vans than bikes, with cyclists coming a close second to the campers.

Popped down to Arbroath for the RNLI night organised by the Royal Marines biker team.
There were in excess of 500 bikes there.

A little 300+ mile wander today, taking in the best section of the NC500 before heading south on a lesser used road along the side of Loch Shin.
Drizzle to start the ride from near Elgin, with no blue sky visible till I’d past Contin, heading towards Ullapool. Then nothing but blue skies, reet warm roads and not too many tourists = BLISS

A small map to clue you into where on the west coast I wandered . . .

An early start on Friday. A wee 100+ miles run up to Appin for a roll and coffee.

With 233 miles on the clock when I got home.

Wanted a splash of fuel at Tyndrum but power was out for the tills.

Made it home with -1.5 miles on the range. And the 18L tank took 18L 😀

And I can’t control the fuckin’ pictures on here

The road markings are for those numpties who don't know the correct line to take through a gentle bend having got used to only riding in cities or on boring straight roads. Its case of follow the markings dafty and you get round this thing called a corner.
They have been using these for a few year in Europe but generally on some tight Alpine bends which came come back round on themselves or where there have been a history of crashes.

Exactly that. Apparently part of some experiment if you google it.

I’m heading from Aberdeen to Applecross tomorrow so might run into some of them myself!

Goodness me! Every time I’ve ridden past that viewpoint recently- I kid you not- there’s been a big yellow Highland Cooncil scaffie wagon parked up! Must be something attracting yellow vehicles! :D
