Off to Iran, at last

Good luck with this Simon .... I loved Iran. The people are wonderful.

It's a few years since we were there, but no escort was required. Pakistan is another thing, and we were escorted without charge. Some of the escorts were friendly and some where plain hostile.

Simon, these latest posts is making me think that I (with a UK passport) will not be able to go through Iran, is that the case? I'm not bothered about the danger of either Iran or Pakistan, but the practicality. I've already eschewed going via the 'Stans because of proximity to Russia (and the fact that I didn't relish crossing the Caspian sea, but had opted to go via Astrakhan in Russia, before Putin insisted on his jaunt), also that there was a significant cost in getting one's vehicle through China, my goal is India.
From what I'm reading, it looks like at the very minimum I'll have to pay to have an escort to cross Iran, is that so?

Semmy: that is my understanding but good idea to check (as you are doing). You will also need a Carnet de Passage en Douane (CPD) but I imagine you know that already, as it’s necessary for Pakistan and India.

I have good contacts in western Pakistan (Balochistan, Taftan border post area), if anyone needs advice or assistance. On the ‘London Road’…

Thanks Tim, that could be useful if I get my act together….

I went to Iran on business in September 2011. Only to Tehran, but I’ve never felt more welcome anywhere. Amazing people and one crazy guy.

Came back with a haul of pomegranates and pistachios

Haha….back in the days when you could get a UK passport reissued within a human lifespan

Not that one of those would be very helpful in getting into Iran! A nation I'd love to visit but international politics seems to be the main stumbling block? Maybe the recent Zaghari-Ratcliffe release deal will ease things a little?

I know a guy in Iran now, he was in India since Covid and is on an Africa Twin (original) He is German BTW and traveling with a Cat too.

I also know Martin Klauka and his cat Mogli ! My partner and I travelled with him for a week or so through Albania and Macedonia ( and feature in his book  ) when he was travelling south.
I keep in contact with him via Telegram and he is a genuinely nice bloke, if you were to contact him through Instagram I'm pretty sure that he would share any knowledge he has gained on that part of the world.

Your trip sounds amazing :thumb2

Just been to FCDO website, current info is NO, NO, NO.
Especially for me as a UK citizen.
It shows all but essential travel for most of Iran, and no travel in the area around Pakistan.
ARGHHHH, I was so looking forward to going there.
