700 Tenere

Doesn't look easy on a big bike:blast

I hadn’t watched that before and I’ve just spent 5 minutes laughing like a demented fool :D

It doesn’t look as if it’d be easy on any bike and it’s one of those trails where you’d be constantly looking for somewhere to turn around while at the same time hoping you wouldn’t be going back the same way.

On a smaller sub 500cc bike you can criss-cross from side to side on the grassy bits
No chance on a bigger bike as the weight & lack of manoeuvrability is against you

I know, that’s why I decided trail riding on my 660 Tenere was a mugs game and bought a 250EXC. If nothing else you can give it an extra whiff of gas to help lift the front on larger steps rather than grind to a halt and topple off sideways.

Even on the FE501 which is considerable more svelte than a new Tenere you have to be careful because there’s that extra power compared to a 250 and it can spin up in the hands of an inexperienced clown like me 😀

Well that's a horror show; both my knees popped just watching it; the thought of trying to foot my GS up there;; no; no; no; like Andy says; once your commited there's only one way; i've been caught out a couple of times with easy starts only to turn to rat shit further on; doubt i'll be playing silly buggers again ; i've learnt my lesson; fair plays to those who go looking for that kind of shit tho;:bow:bow

Well in the last few weeks (at long last!) I've been able to get out and about and really put some miles on the T7 and I have to say that it's everything I wanted it to be... from a decent and comfortable mileage muncher to a fun play thing for light off-roading jolly japes.

If anybody is still in any doubt about buying one of these brilliant machines then just do it... buy one!

And don't even give it a second thought.

What’s your favourite bit about it ?

What’s your favourite bit about it ?

Okay. I'll play. :D

1) Very comfortable (for me) with 300-350 mile days easily possible. The ergonomics are just spot on.
2) Smooth and linear engine which picks up sweetly from tick-over particularly in the first few gears which is perfect when off road.
3) No over complicated tech. One push button to disable the abs and off you go.
4) Well proven and generally bulletproof Yamaha engine reliability.
5) Lowish cost to purchase compared to other competitors.
6) Feels very light and flickable to ride.
7) Looks!!!

And lastly but most importantly.... it isn't a lollypop lady coloured KTM. :D:D

That just about sums it up well, for you

I did over 20k miles in 2020, evenly spread on my 2019 1250gs, new s1000xr and 2020 T7. On road, off road, city, motorway, blah, blah, blah. Then in March I moved and decided to keep only one. Guess which one??
Best of the lot IMO

PS. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all

I agree they're just very nice all around motorcycles and I love the simplicity. How many miles on yours now Tricky?
I recently went up a tooth on the countershaft sprocket which made it even nicer for the way I ride it which is not on trails but on all types of roads from dirt on up. The change barely affected 1st gear I can still plod along around 7mph w/o slipping the clutch, but it's more relaxed in 6th. IIRC 4,000 rpm was about 55mph, now it's 59mph. Other than soft panniers and a Seat Concepts seat that's all I've done to mine.

So what's your reason for flogging yours then ?

To buy Something else

After a 1000 mile weekend to Scotland, 10 days ago I realised the 1150 Adv is a better road touring bike

Off-road around here, a smaller enduro bike is better

About 4K miles now Clifton.

I bought it last August but due to Covid and various lockdowns I haven’t had the opportunity to use it much until now.

looks a great film to watch

I had a quick go on a Tenere brought from here for my brother in law and its one of those bike you get on and instantly feel at home on. I loved it immediately .I have a soft spot for them as a 1983 600 Tenere was my first big bike after 350LC and went to the Pyrenees on it in 86 . tempted by Johnnys bike but I really have too many bikes now and it wouldn't get used. looks lovely a great price should sell soon I expect

Great filming here

I love GOT2GO she makes great travel vids… particularly the series on her journey through Africa on her T7 (sadly curtailed prematurely due to Covid).

It’s not too late to pull that advert yet!! :thumb
