How have you mounted your mobile phone on your bike? This is really targeted at LC

Does your phones touch screen work with your gloves on ,as mine doesn’t

Here’s my set up, IPhone 12 Pro with various Quadlock bits to get it right where it needs to be. Mirror mount with angle elbow, anti vibe mount and it all works perfectly...

At the risk of this sounding like one of those top tips in the back of Viz...You can make your old gloves work. Get some sliver metallic thread and put a couple of stitches in on the left forefinger. Made sure to leave a cm of tail inside the glove for my finger to always come into contact with and hey presto, you can use your phone!

To be honest it’s not 100% reliable every time, but is usually good enough to change the screen if something annoying happens like a notification popping up over the bit of the map I’m looking at.

Thanks will try that .I know there is some sort of paint that you put onto the fingers of your gloves but will give your suggestion a go

I have done that in the past, but found the thread inside the glove (that needs to touch your finger) an annoying and uncomfortable bobble and drove me nuts!
On my little 790, I now have a velcroed a smart phone stylus thing which is 100% reliable. Equally Viz / Heath Robinson, but works. Ebay job for pence.

Hi mate, that looks like the perfect setup, which mount from SP did you actually use under the wireless one?
I am struggling to understand if the mirror mount is the right one..
Thanks

Hi there, I looked at the SP system myself. The problem for me was faffing around with their required cover to make the system work and attach to the base mount. In the end I went down the Ram Mounts route which has been immensely successful.

https://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-HOL-UN14WB

I've fixed this mount to the base of my left mirror using a Ram Mount and hard wired it via an Optimate 100 USB controller, to avoid unwanted discharges, direct from the battery zip tied discreetly to the existing handlebar cables and fed under the tupperware.

https://www.optimate.co.uk/products/o100-usb-charger

The Ram Mount is absolutely secure accommodating my Samsung S21 Ultra, pen and rubber cover with ease. Fixing the phone takes less than a second, ditto removing it and the charger keeps it topped up to 100% battery, even when in constant use with the BMW Connectedride App and a Media Player for example.

I also use my phone for contactless credit card payments, removing the phone from the mount with gloves, popping into the gas station and paying with the phone for me is a real winner, no need to remove gloves, helmet, faff, faff, and more faff.

Hope this all helps.

Regards,

Tony.

It’s the mirror one.

You can get exactly the same setup with Quadlock too.

If you’re using a newer phone (mines an older XR) both SP and Quadlock do an anti vibration mount too.

The case is a little bit more bulky than a normal one. But it’s a few mm only, plus I have a windscreen mount with another wireless charger in the car, so use it for a nav there too.

I did try the wunderlinq by mounting it in the bmw mount and then pushing the whole lot into the bodywork near the forks. Whist it all worked well I found the Apple version very limited. The issue being ISO not allowing much functionality. If you’ve an android phone then it’s well worth a try too though.

Thanks a lot for the details. I have ordered the new BMW connected rive cradle and will see if that works well as it doesn't force you to remove the entire navi cradle.
otherwise I will go for your setup

Tempted by that set up too, but not sure about how much control, if any, you get over the apps? Either with IOS or android

My problem with the bmw app is no camera info, so use the TomTom app instead.

In an ideal world you could open and close other apps via the wheel, but that’s just wishful thinking!

I will let you know how it actually is when it arrives as it on backorder everywhere. I am hoping I can use it simply with Google Maps as a navigator since I've sold my Zumo out of desperation. At the same time I also not too keen on touching too much the bike so that looks like a nice clean albeit expensive plug and play solution.

Have a look at this video, it explains all the functionalities of the cradle:

Just acquired the connected ride cradle from BMW, perfect solution if you have the sat nav prep.

Hi there, just to say thank you for your Quadlock recommendation. They look amazing. I have a 1200GS like yours, need to think which model to buy and where to locate it.

Do you think an iPhone is protected enough from vibrations with the BMW cradle?
if the answer is yes then this clearly is the best setup if you have nav prep.
