Himalayan? anyone road one

RE have developed a flat tracker variant which is being used in the States to encourage newbies into the sport with a travelling 'slide school'.

Over here, I believe, they are setting up a one make race series using the bike, again for newbies...... I think the bike looks quite neat :)

Rode one today ...

I test rode a 2021 Himalayan today (M&P Cardiff) and loved every minute.

It's a light and flickable little bike that looks great, and with plenty of grunt for the job it's designed for. I've read some critiscism of the brakes but I though they were fine - crisp and progressive.

It's no 1150 but the two bikes togther will be my perfect garage. Looking forward to making my purchase later this year. Just need to decide on the colour - not sure about the splinter camo or red/black at the moment ....

What a super bike for the price:thumb2

As you appear to be approaching the bike with the correct attitude ie. it's not a GS and that's fine, i guess you will love it, i do and i have had mine
over two years but, due to lockdowns only 5,500 miles; i have enjoyed all of them.

As for the brakes, the front one to be exact, it can, certainly on mine, be termed "progressive" as once applied it will progressively slow the bike down.
It's certainly the one thing i would like to see improved as it's dangerous really and my riding needs to take into account that the front brake will not
add much retardation in an emergency braking situation. As always, other opinions/experiences are available. I keep thinking to try EBC pads but just
not got round to it as yet. When you get the bike, bear in mind that the engine will improve greatly with mileage, mine did.

for the price the EBC pads are an improvement

Tbh. unless it's a major improvement i'm reluctant to bother as i would rather just get on doing what i do with the brake as is rather
than spend the time effort and money for a small improvement and still need to be aware the brake is still shite but less so  :D

I think if you ride this bike aggressively on fast/busy roads you will come a cropper quite quickly.

But for bimbling around byeways or gentle green laning, the brakes are more than adequate. That's the reason I want it .... having dropped my 1150 a couple of times of late on such byeways, it's getting a bit much for me to lift it back up.

Very nice Retroman nd uturn tony very informative

once my rd350lc an 250lc are gone I'm gonna be looking at getting one finally been flying around on a 2010 T100 which is an interesting experience compared to my Norton 650ss daily rider ad previous bmw's the classic 500's caught my eye as well recently

A possibility on very busy roads as you really don't want to be needing to stop in a real hurry

Yes, the back roads and green lanes are where the bike really shines but, that said, due to it's excellent handling it can be hustled along
through the twisties at the legal limits quite easily and, put a smile on your face at the same time :D

Had a letter from MotoGB inviting me to have both the Disc brake calipers replaced foc so, been into A&D at Denbigh and got my bike on the list to get them.
The new calipers are anodised to prevent corrosion it seems.

Interceptor and Continental GT also has a recall to replace calipers, not had any issues but get them done when next at the dealers

We have a euro 5 which stopped working at a 1000 miles been in the local dealer for three weeks till no news on when it will be fixed hope we are just unluckily

Recently fitted the replacement calipers supplied to me by A&D Motorcycles who continue to come up trumps as a dealer. Great people great service :thumb2

The replacements (for those that don't know) are due to a safety re-call due to the originals rusting up and causing the brake to stick and drag, sometimes causing the brake to lock on quite firmly.

Replacements have treated pistons to prevent rusting and anodised bodies so the sticking should be a thing of the past. :thumb2

Whiles't at it i decided to fit EBC HH Sintered pads in the front and yes, i have to say there is an improvement in retardation power :D Still not brilliant by any means but yes, better.

Took the bike out for a test ride and got into some local gnarley lanes and ended up with a broken rear carrier :blast The rack, after 3 years had given in and broke where they usually break.
I fitted a small ally top box pretty much at the start of my ownership which generally had nothing in it but it's weight combined with much off roading with the resultant flexing of the tubes caused
the tubes to break depositing the box in the road behind me. Glad to say, as the box is one of Vern's World Beaters it sustained no damage but left a dent in the bit of tarmac that was present :D
I now have a replacement used one on it's way to me which will get beefed up before going on the bike :thumb2

Off out on it today to meet up with a right Tosser for lunch (Stu, Brut33) who will no doubt be on his Harley but, perhaps he'll be on his BMW, we'll see.
