Not much info on here for recommended roads or places to see. Everybody knows about the South and the Tatra mountains but not much about the North.

Not wanting to have a dreary ride through Poland a bit of Google for places to see and roads to ride. Some of it is not relevant to where I'm going but alas it might be of help for someone else.

So whereabouts in Poland goeth thee?

Thanks Wapping. Yes, I have looked at Alpentourer. We will be going to the North East to have a look at the old German WW2 bunkers. That is the squiggle near Ketrzyn on the .pdf over the far right of the map.

I'm travelling from Dresden to Gdansk, crossing at Bad Muskau, which I don't seem to find too many recommendations regarding roads. Just pick a direction and go. Someone mentioned Klomino (https://goo.gl/maps/zS6fKR7rhKQ2) which is on my way there and it is near Borne Sulinowo for which I will be too late to see the annual military vehicle gathering (http://www.zlot.bornesulinowo.pl/letni/). Other places are Malbrok (https://goo.gl/maps/ieRHdYhJEM42) and Bydgoszcz (https://goo.gl/maps/cU1xvGymix12). My wife's cousin lives in Bydgoszcz so we will be visiting the place. For the return I'll stick to the north following the Alpentourer route. But will call in at Leba (https://goo.gl/maps/f5w8aEphvsC2, https://goo.gl/maps/cU1xvGymix12) we have visited before and is a cracking holiday town which I suspect might have a few good roads in the area.

I'll be on my own on the motorcycle and my wife joins me in Poland for a bit of family visits and sight seeing. Then I'm on my own coming back. Wish now I have put more effort in to learn the language. The worry or concern for me is a nice place to stay over for the night. It can be a bit of hit and miss in Poland which will require a decent amount of research to check places out.

Can't say any of the roads I rode were brilliant, mainly due to heavy rain and poor surfaces, but the almost abandoned complex near Borne Sulinowo was an interesting ride gown a long gravel road to overgrown mud paths. Torun is a great old historic city. I am off touring round Poland in September going to Gdansk then Bialystok before heading south to Zamosc, Zakopane and then Wrocław.

Will check out the other stuff posted here, might change the route.

Ah yes, Klomino was the place I was thinking about, approach from Borne Sulinowo and its a gravel road, approach from the south and its tarmac (mostly). It gets a little worse, won't spoil it with pictures of Klomino.

Make sure you post a decent report because I keep toying with the idea of heading up to the Baltic coast of Germany then going east through Poland to Kaliningrad but it needs a bit of organisation to do the Kaliningrad part so it never quite happens for me.

If you end up going to Warsaw I can put you onto a nice small hotel within walking range of most of the tourist traps and bars that has decent bike parking where you’re in an out of the way but public courtyard area which has decent rails to chain the bike to.

Nipped over the German border to Zagan to see the site of Stalag Luft III and the Great Escape camp. About 1km down a forest track and plenty of bits n bobs to see there. Headed south from there roughly parallel to the border to Szklarska Poręba in a skiing area for the next night. Some excellent roads, some a bit poorly maintained. No real logic to it (few years ago) and an excellent road would suddenly turn crappy for a couple of miles, then back to good surface twisties.

I was trying to get to Kaliningrad this year but all fell apart, next year as there should be an electronic 10 day visa by then

Massive thanks for this. Stones throw from Bad Muskau where I cross into Poland.

I’ll keep an eye out for progress on that one. I just want to go there because basically it’s an anomaly in that it really shouldn’t be part of Russia but it is and even though I’ve been to the more easily recognised parts of Russia several times I want to go to their version of the Isle of Wight.

Changed the route a bit but for now it is a near enough a rough idea of mileage and roads. Plenty of scope to bypass the scenic bit if weather or time demands less time on the road. The reason the Google maps links are broken is because I had to adapt the route from this https://kurvenkoenig.de/motorrad/deutschland.html which is in the Germany calling thread. Feel free to add and advise.

POI on this route are apart from the obvious in Germany

Bach Kirste - Arnstadt
Stalug Luft 111
Poznan
Klomino
Szczecinek - basically left intact during WW2

You were interested in the north, so I snapped a picture of their suggested tours. If you zoom in, you’ll probably be able to match them to a map.

Tell me more about this electronic 10 day visa please....

Doing some research and apparently Kaliningrad lost its special status but they were planning to introduce 10 day electronic visas to replace the 3 day ones you get at the boarder. They were due to do it this year but the Russian government sites I read indicate some time spring next year. Not sure of cost yet.
