German Baltic coast

Accepting the German wit?? it's not a bad little jaunt, somewhere the Brits don't often visit.

We like Hussum, very 'old Germany' - stay at the Theodor Storm, with brew pub. Stop at Laboe for the Naval Memorial & Wolf-pack U-Boat on the beach. Base at Lubeck, a quaint old Hanseatic town that found itself right on the border with EG after WW2 & became a busy port on the Baltic until reunification - river/canal/old harbours & attractive Altstadt

if you like viking stuff, drinking meade and generally getting wrecked there's always this..... in august

ditmarscher brewery sponsors the Wacken music festival, so if your bag is head banging, beers and roadtrips this is an alternative

I cannot even start to imagine what a ‘Büttenwarder’ does for a living.

I love Germany, a land rich in schoolboy humour, bizarre rules and even more bizarre people.

I cannot even start to imagine what a ‘Büttenwarder’ does for a living.

it's meant to be a little village, this is the german version of "Eastenders" and it's a pretty close to reality, a slower version of everyday..... life in the land of two seas....

Not a bad website, which extends down below the coast but it’s in the right sort of area. It’s in foreign but you can always copy and paste the text into Google translate to get an idea on what they are on about. Here’s how:

It’ll even suggest some of those really important hotels that are friendly to bikers, apparently.

Play about in it, you can’t break it.

All on an iPad, so it really is that easy. All I started from was a three word Google search of:

mecklenburg motorrad touren

mecklenburg (the area in Germany)

motorrad (German for motorbike)

touren (German for tour)

I don’t speak a word of German but I’d worked out the second two words just by looking at assorted sites. All I then had to do was remember the two words for future searches. As they are so close to English, that wasn’t too hard.

The idea of Google is that you can strip down any search to just three words; all you have to do is imagine what three words to use. Give it a go, you really cannot break anything.

North west German coast - Kiel / Lubeck

This route, lifted from ALPENTOURER magazine looks OK
