Several magagazines, particularly the very good German ‘touring magazines’ and the (excellent) Kurvenkoenig website now use Tourcodes to get routes into Kurviger, from where you can download them as .gpx files.
Here is an example, created by doing nothing more than tapping about on an iPad, so it can’t be hard. I always try to download third party routes as tracks as they can be less prone to glitches but that is just a personal preference. Tap around, you can’t break it.
For this example I have used a route / Tourcode from a German magazine, available (along with others) through Readly. I don’t speak German but I can look at pictures and then imagine...
For the purposes of this post, that’s near enough as far as I can usefully take it on an iPad. On a PC or Mac the .gpx file should open up straight into BaseCamp / Mapsource for easy checking (always check BEFORE you go), editing and transfer to a GPS device.
Bods who don’t use a GPS device but prefer to use their phone as a navigation device can select downloading the file to their android phone or displaying it in the Scenic app for Apple users.
Failing any of that high tech stuff. Zoom in on the map and copy it onto a paper map / write out the route on the back of your gas bill’s envelope and shove it on your tankbag. Job done.
