701 long range anyone ?

Finally home so got to unpack and fit my Renazco seat.
It’s much heavier and more substantial than the OE seat.

It’s a bit deeper/taller but very similar to sit on with regard to feet touching floor etc, which is good as I didn’t want it taller.

Feels just like the Renazco seat on my 950SE so hopefully all day comfortable.

Shame I cant try it but just back from the most virus-riddled country in Europe so under self-isolation for 14 days.

Arsey... what seat height do you have on it now if I may ask ?

Tx

Ran both tanks dry on the 701LR. Got 290 miles and fuel light cane on after 250 !!

How does it compare to your africa twin and 790R on road? Is the engine smooth enough/powerful in comparison, and what about on the motorway?
Cheers

Fucking cat got Covid apparently.
Anyway, I’m finally home and got a big box of Nomad stuff to fit :

A mate who is much more mechanically minded than me is supposed to help me fit the tower.

But having watched this vid, it looks to be a bit of a mare, especially the first bit.

https://youtu.be/_Yeg7yP31wY

He’s a bit busy at the mo so I might end up taking the bloody thing back to Nomad in Holland for them to fit as would rather pay them than someone locally, as they will know exactly what to do,hopefully make a neater job, and be quicker,so possibly cheaper....

So I made a start on what I can do myself , beginning with billet filler caps.

Nomad forgot to send the belly pan/toolbox, so that’s supposedly on the way.

Had to order a step drill set from Amazon to drill the plastics to fit the racks :

Easy enough to do as the drilling locations are marked behind the plastics ,which I obviously removed first !!

No instructions for racks so a bit of trial and error as the sides are different because of the exhaust.

They do fit very neatly though :

Just a small matter of fitting the tower etc now.

Don’t hold your breath !!!!

thats very nice, I have to say that is one of the few new bikes I would want to own, but I am thinking the new norden may come close as well. But the 701 is in every way better than the KTM version of the same thing

Arsey, I’m sure there’s an algorithm to determine when you’ll be selling this bike - I’m currently working on it being about the time I ready to start building my bike collection back up.

The side parts that hold the panniers off the body initially look low but then when the panniers are on they’re pretty much on the mark so that’s good. Just take your time, trial fit everything and you’ll be fine, you can fly an aeroplane so putting a few bits on a bike should be easy :D

I decided to see if my old Kriega US5 would fit on the heat shield of my 501 without any drilling and was pleasantly surprised to find that it did so I’ve now got something to carry a toolkit, tyre levers, a few cable ties and some tape so I’m well happy with my days messing. The toolbox on the bash plate takes a hefty disc lock but sod all else :blast

Why's that then?

its nothing more than a subjective view. I dislike the looks of the ktm and I really like the look of this one, for a start I prefer the extra tank at the front where a tank should go.

The instructions to fit the tower have a few gaps in them, especially the first step, and I’ll need help from my mate with the electrics,so I’m going to wait and see if he comes up trumps in the next week to help me.

I've had to keep looking at this, wondering what bothers me, It's the lack of knobs.
Skinny road tyres and how can you ever trust reckless panniers?

I get that as "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and Huskies have always tended to be that bit more attractive than their orange siblings. :beerjug:

....... and how can you ever trust reckless panniers?

The reckless stuff is extremely good - very tough and very secure on the bike, but only a two minute job to undo the straps and take it all off.

I used mine for an off-road trip in Iceland last year, with camping kit and had no problems at all, despite chucking the bike in a river everything stayed dry and in place. The holster arrangement may not look pretty but it works very well in that you just undo a couple of clips and pull out the dry bags . When it's pissing down (which it does a lot in Iceland!) it's really easy to unpack and get stuff into your tent to keep everything dry.

Highly recommend :thumb2

Here's a pic of it all loaded and ready to go, with apologies to Bowser that it's fitted to the Huskies ugly sister ;)
