Travel insurance

Just read through the ' Get going " Travel insurance document ,
Single and Multi Trip. Poverty Plan £33
The only exclusion to motorcycle cover of any CC was as below , seems like everything else is covered.
Once I resume the will to live I will have a look at their " Standard and Premier " cover to try and see what benefit if any to a motorcycle tour would be.

You are responsible for the control of a motorised vehicle for which you do not hold appropriate qualifications to drive/ride in the United Kingdom or the Channel Islands. (If you are riding pillion, or you are a passenger, it is your responsibility to check that the rider/driver holds the appropriate qualifications). You can visit the following link to the UK Government site for more information on appropriate licenses: https://www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-moped/bike-categories-ages-and-licence-

the higher levels of cover are not of any benefit to me - they raise the amount of cancellation fees and late departure compensation; add a cash bribe to use a public hospital and reduce the policy excess. The main element of the policy covering emergency medical fees is unchanged, with a £10 million limit.

I am not booking a large package holiday and I am able to be flexible on where I travel on my bike, so I am only interested in the medical cover, really. My bike is either covered by the actual bike policy or a separate breakdown policy, depending on the nature of an incident.

wesssie makes a very good point, that the enhanced levels of cover should only be considered if:

(a) You have looked to see what additional cover the higher levels offer, as opposed to having simply clicked on 'Gold' because it must be best

(b) You actually need the enhanced cover

(b) The price differential between the base or adequate cover and the top level is small enough that you really do not care. Often it is not

That he has worked out that it's the nature of the incident that dictates whether a claim or help comes down the Motor policy route or from the Mechanical Breakdown policy (which are not the same thing) is also important.

When I sent my Pan European flying a couple of feet in the air but landed it upright again on the highway, its recovery back to London from south west France was actually organised by my Breakdown insurer, as they are best equipped to deal with it. However the cost - and that of the two sets of car hire, so that I could continue my holiday and get back to London - were paid for under my Motor policy, the cause of the flight the bike went on and its consequential damage to the front wheel, not being a mechanical breakdown. In short, the two separate insurers insurers worked in harmony, each helping the other to help me. The whole affair took maybe three hours (whilst the insurers organised everything) and perhaps four phone calls to resolve (them calling me, to check what they proposed suited me) most of which I spent drinking beers at my hotel. The claim made no significant difference to my renewal premium. Had I not of been suitably insured, I can bet that I would have been taking an awful lot longer and been considerably out of pocket for my efforts.

Due to my own not very impressive medical history and age, I have used specialist Travel Insurance brokers in the past and setting up the policy usually takes a telephone call often lasting nearly an hour to get things sorted and a price calculated after going through previous and ongoing conditions plus medications etc.

A couple of years ago and for this year, I'm taking the bike through the Tunnel and have bought Le Shuttle's own travel insurance at a very reasonable price of approximately £35.00 where the only question asked is that at the time of taking out the policy would your G.P. be happy for you to make the trip? In my case this would be OK so no other questions to be answered.

Not having seen anything in this Thread about Le Shuttle travel insurance, have any of you had experience of this policy whether good or bad?

Thanks.

policy looks okay - usual caveat for motorcycles in that the rider must have a UK licence and rider & pillion must wear a helmet. If you have taken out the linked breakdown cover, note the cc limit (must be OVER 200cc so no touring on your C90) and under an age limit from 10-15 years depending on level of cover (Bronze is 15 years, gold 10 years)

It's underwritten by a subsidiary of Allianz and you would deal with Allianz's office in the UK if you made a claim. They sponsor Saracens so some will come along to tell you they are a bunch of cúnts...

Thanks for the comments, I only took out the Travel Insurance as BMW cover the Bike through Europe.

Agreed , when I looked at the other levels of cover there was not a lot of benefit ( To me ) in paying the extra premium
I also note that there seems very little re. the amount of interrogation regarding you medical history ?
So In summary without over complicating things with policy wording code the Poverty level of cover should be adequate for most ?who are doing multiple European jaunts on their mighty steeds of any CC providing they are wearing a crash helmet and hold the relevant licence to do so ?

Travel Insurance for an Off Road tour

Hi Everybody,

any input or guidance as to where to go for Travel Insurance that allows Off-Road Motorcycling?

I've looked at other travel insurance and followed certain links - none of which allow off-roading (Post Office, etc etc).

thanks in advance

K

https://www.snowcard.co.uk/activity-levels/adventure-plus for risky sports - they insured a friend when he went snowboarding in Russia, jumping out of an ancient ex military helicopter.

Excellent tip Wessie. Just bought Travel Insurance for a summer beach break in Turkey next year and additional premium for Hypertension was £1.59. :fbthumb

Get going are also not providing quotes at the moment

Snowcard are still in business and gave me a reasonable quote for 10 days in Spain. This includes medical cover for COVID whilst you are away, which Battleface doesn’t do if you are over 59

Can anyone recommend standard 'medical expenses' EU travel insurance that covers for on-road motorcycle trips? (1200cc bike, trips under 30 days in length)

There seem to be thousands of suppliers and I am sure buried in the small print a lot of them won't cover motorcycle riding

thanks
