I seem to have inadvertantly become the planner for a long weekend for myself & 6 mates in early April :blast

It all started innocently enough, just me & a couple of others planning to head over to the Elan Valley for a long days ride (ok, a very long day from the Isle of Wight), but has now morphed into 3 days away & different people wanting to do different things - some want to go to Devils Bridge, others the Brecon Beacons, while another just wants chips in Aberystwyth...

So, basically, can anyone recommend any semi-decent routes of between 100-200 miles centered around Builth Wells, suitable for a bunch of middle-age tossers?

So far, I've found this (https://www.adventurebikerider.com/motorcycle-route-through-the-brecon-beacons/) & have looked at a few of the red routes on this website (https://www.bestbikingroads.com/motorcycle-roads/united-kingdom/rides/south-east-wales), but would appreciate any suggestions for roads, food, drink etc.

Thanks in advance
Chas

Aberaeron is a nicer place to visit for chips. The chippy in the harbour is excellent and has a cafe at the rear if you want to sit down and use cutlery.

Here's a route https://goo.gl/maps/DrRYvf3zM8tCrQ5r8 includes Elan Valley, Devil's Bridge, Black Mountain, Blaen y Glyn (Taff/Usk watershed) & Wye Valley

Easy for those scared of a single track mountain road to take the A44 instead. Shorten the route by taking the A483 from Llandovery. Loads of other variations such as going via Upper Chapel over Mynydd Epynt, extending to Abergavenny & Hay on Wye over the Gospel Pass etc etc.

Please dont come we are full.

They are all good, just wander about.:thumby:

As said you can't really go wrong. Wessie's route is a must tho there is a variation which takes in the mtn route out thru Elan valley and back in via LLyn Brianne. Hope you're going to enjoy the scenery and not just blitz it! Have stopped riding said routes at w/ends cos the nutters (normally on 'resin rockets') attract plod and the mobile speed cameras.

Wessies route is great but you would miss out some awesome single track roads around Elan Valley, these are well worth checking out.

Good suggestion.

Yup, Wessie's route is VERY popular with the weekend warriors and camera vans.

Agreed and pretty much true for the whole route. An example would be where you can avoid the A470 from Builth down to Llyswen by using the B4567 that tracks alongside the east side of the Wye. At Elwood you join a, mostly, single track that'll take you to Boughrood. There are lots of lanes and tracks to the east and west of those roads which can keep a GS occupied for a while.

Apologies for grandmother sucking eggs but April will probably be very Welsh, weather wise, and there can be quite a shift in temperature and "dampness" depending on altitude and bearing. Also, due to the floods and rain, the farmers are struggling to move around so are taking opportunities whenever they can which is leaving a lot of mud and slime on the roads.

That said, it's still one of the best areas to ride. Enjoy.

Try the B4518 North out of Rhayader up to Llandiloes then carry on the B4518 past the Clywedog Res up to Llanbynmair.

As you reach the A470 junction go left 50 yds then right onto Pandy Rd and keep going North.

Then left on the A458 and right on to A470 up to Dinas Mawddwy then fork right off A470 in Dinas Mawddwy then follow road over to Lake Vyrnwy
go around lake the North to Bala.

Make something up to get you home or reverse route.

Keep an eye out for coloured chucks :doris on the pandy rd. Pheasant farm about 4 miles in. Great fun if your the first rider through, just duck if your not:D
