Bars of France

My local. Nothing to recommend it other than friendly owner and excellent cheap food (four courses, wine and coffee included €14). Drop in for a coffee in the morning or join the local tradesmen and van drivers for an 8 AM beer or peti' blanc. The afternoon crowd tend to be long-term unemployed and victims of agricultural accidents. Bit like the Cantina scene from Star Wars, but with fewer digits.

Do they still do , the drink driving ?
I watched ( while I was lunching) the driver of an LPG gas delivery truck come in for lunch , he scoffed a 1 litre carafe of red with it , we reckoned he was going off shift and would have a kip in the cab , not a bit of it , straight up and away

This one seemed to be more of an antique shop than a cafe. The bloke could only make one coffee at a time. It was a long coffee stop (not a million miles away from Morlaix) whilst we watched each other drink coffee.....

It's fair to say it doesn't quite attract the social opprobrium it does in Blighty - people just tink it's bad luck if you get kicked.

And they have a much lower limit than we do.

And even if you get a ban you can still drive those annoying single cylinder diesel cars.

Good thread!
A great wee bar at the east end of the D84 on Corsica, on the edge of Francardo. When I left the lad gave me food for a meal as he reckoned I wouldn't find anything along the road. He was right and the cheese was excellent.

Was running low on petrol in the Auvergne. The satnav took me to this bar in the middle of nowhere that happened to have a couple of petrol pumps. Completely dark inside and they had to hunt around for the card reader so I could pay .....

Restaurant Hirschen, Worb (Suisse...near FR :D).

A stop for lunch which was expensive, but delicious.

Ah, the one with the toilet that washes your boots/ trousers! :blast

That's the one. Don't drop your keys! The terror as they slide towards the hole of doom would be palpable. If you do, I'd suggest a bent wire coat hanger to go fishing with and do be sure to give them a good wipe.

Outside Beaufort just after Albertville heading for Cormet de Roseland:

A days offroading on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees and we came across this little bar attached to a solitary farm house; views to die for whilst sipping an ice cold beer.

Feck knows where it was, we were lost so I'll never find it again; makes the memory all that more special :)
