Bars of France

IMAG0297-M.jpg

Cafe du Commerce, Lyon-la-Foret. In my opinion this is the archetypal French cafe/restaurant. Basic but delicious food, very reasonably priced, lika a staff canteen for the whole village (except in height of Summer when th ecoach parties take over) and nice little square to look at.

Great cafe between Jaca and Pau

Somewhere on the border of Swizerland and Italy, I seem to remember when leaving (only seconds after taking this photo) some gorgeous woman walking past my bike with a see thru top, no bra with the most amazing Khuners. Shame i didn't get her photo:blast Anyhoo had a fantastic lunch here

Looks like your mate has clocked her also.:D

Bohain-en-Vermandois (aka vermin)

Dropping points for the quality of the sky and because the cafe does not provide the obligatory PMU horse betting facilities, which sees it devoid of the entire population of the town (irrespective of the day or hour) betting their social services’ money away.

Gain bonus points for the shut chip hut next door, that would normally be wafting the smells six week old chip oil across the breeze. Also gain points in that the cafe does offer the lotto, which guarantees at least three televisions showing a carton of a ball dancing about a card of numbers in some sort of Gallic attempt at bingo. There will also be old hand amended posters claiming that some unnamed person from some made up village once nearly won 12 euro playing. The fourth TV will be showing the French equivalent of MTV, with no sound... thankfully.

Again, somewhere where I stop regularly. I am pleased to say.

Is there anything less welcoming than ‘Bikers welcome’ in Germany, complete with a car park to look at.

Meanwhile, two of the locals whose fathers were definitely in the Hitler youth, tell you that you cannot park your bike that way round on a Sunday as it contravenes a local law that has been in force since 927 AD..... and it’s raining, which is just the stale cream topping on the dried up apple strudel

History does not recall where this was. I aim to find it and repeat my misery again.

PS The soup was excellent and the bier top notch.

No idea where this was (obvs), but they did a cracking salad....

Lake Settons, in the Morvan (obvs)

Indeed, IIRC you had just taken us down some tiny back country road past a farm which then turned into a bit of a gravel strewn goat track! I never knew a K1600 had an "off road" mode! :D

Morvan was fabulous though, a lovely part of France, which appeared to be less frequented by tourist type folk!

I’ve sometimes had bods moaning about some roads in the Ardennes in autumn. Twigs, leaves, gravel, tree roots pushing up the road surface to not tip-top condition. They on GS Adventures.... me on an an HP4.

Indeed, a great part of France.

Le Beffroi, Tournai (BE)

In the main square and lovely food; we needed a decent feed following the birth of ‘Nuttys Law’ ....

Le Troll, La Rochelle.
La Rochelle is usually our first accommodation from after an overnight ferry into Roscoff, found this pub more or less by accident. The landlord/owner is a rugby fan and has shirts everywhere.....
It isn't that big and is the nearest we have found to a british pub, you can stand at the bar and drink etc.
One word of advice, if the drink the beer called "Delerium", sit down first !
Damn strong stuff, but ever so easy to drink, almost sweet to taste.......

Wierre Effroy, France, on a suitably dull day

The bar has had a serious makeover since I first crossed its threshold, many years ago. Then the urinal was on the side wall to the right, open to nature and untouched by Jeyes fluid for many years.
