Hello Guys,

I am very roughly planning out a RTW trip, at the moment I am thinking of taking two bites at it, first stage would be Scotland to Australia, perhaps air freight bike back to Scotland.

Can someone please advise me of how to get from Turkey to Malaysia, keeping it interesting and fun but also alive!!!!

Chris...:D

Turkey, Azerbaijan ferry across the Caspian Sea, Hop across the “stans” - transit through China drop down through Thailand into Malaysia.

Ok...so pardon my ignorance but are the "stans" easily accessible in terms of red tape? any particular one I should avoid?....I assume Afghanistan wont welcome me?

Paging Wapping.
Christmas has come early !! :)

How will you get to Turkey ?

Be gentle Wapping!!!!

My route to Turkey will be UK>Spain>France>Corsica>Sardegna>Italy >...then ferry to most probably Croatia and head East from there...

The northern “Stans” are accessible I suspect the red tape will be manageable......( not done it myself)

google mogol rally routes if a load of kids can do it in cheap shit cars, with little if any planning i'm pretty sure a dude on a motorbike can do it...!

Plenty of info in the Travel section...

I can think of about 20 different route options to get from my house to Canterbury; each with their own benefits and pitfalls, each suiting different bikes (of styles of bikes), weather, time constraints and exact destination (Cathedral? Hospital? Bike shop?). I could probably give a summary of each route in a reasonable lengthy post, or a shorth-ish chapter of a guide book. It's only 15 miles.

I think there might be quite a few route options to get from Turkey to Malaysia. Probably best to look and see what information is already available on the wb or in printed form but it's going to take you a load of time.

It'll be a fantastic trip, I'm sure, but I wouldn't be planning anything myself until I know how the old coronavirus issue is going to pan out.

FCO website is probably a good place to start on how accessible the Stans are.

From the OP, that brought us: https://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/487165-How-do-you-plan-your-tours-Or-do-you

Well, you’ve bitten on a big one with your latest planning, where you’ve got yourself to the very edge of the known world (Europe) and are now faced with a blank sheet of paper and, literally, a blank expression on your face.

Here’s some encouragement, which tells you that you are not alone.....

Found in under a minute by Googling: Drive Turkey to Malaysia. That’s just four words. It’s how Google works; you may be able to do it in three words.

I’ll leave you how to click on the various sub-sections of the webpage but you’ll notice that each of the blocks has the headline towns / cities they passed through. It’ll give you a start, whilst you stare at the walls, if not your map. You do have a map, don’t you? The bods in the pictures don’t look too much like rufty-tufrty seat of the pants, self-reliant motorbike riders, which suggests most of their epic drive must have been on decent enough roads. In fact you can see how easy it is to fake, where in one shot (if it had been cropped) you’d swear they are on an unmade road but in fact it’s a lay-by, next to the highway.

I then Googled: Turkey to Malaysia motorbike. Four words again. This time, just a few seconds. https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hubb/route-planning/uk-singapore-overland-motorbike-oct-58939

It’s a bit old but hey, you’ll get the gist and you’ll have discovered the wonderful resource that is Horizons Unlimited, for all kinds of good shit, like how to cook the hedgehog in your pocket, whist sitting in a ditch with no internet connection. In addition, you’ll notice that the bloke who penned off the question that started the thread in Horizons Unlimited said:

I was hoping someone may 'pop up' and say....do it this route, simple!!

which, I guess is what you are hoping for? The really encouraging thing is that the bloke on Horizons Unlimited left his request until just a month before he set off. You have left yourself maybe years.

Whilst you are at it, you might like to look at this thread:

Yup, I know, it doesn’t go to where you want to go but it sort of gets you going vaguely in the right direction, if a bit north, latitude wise. The great things is that you can download the GPS track, which would be a lifesaver. You could use it as trial run, maybe? If you wanted to go to Beijing, you could look at this:

https://www.globebusters.com/motorcycle-tours/china-motorcycle-tour/#!2

Only 15% of that jaunt, from the Ace Cafe (how cool is that) all the way to the middle of China, is on unmade roads, spread over the 12 weeks. It shows, if nothing else, that it can’t be hard or even requiring a full on adventure motorcycle..... if you put you mind to it.

Await your words.....

ADVrider is where you want to be for trip reports like that. I particularly like Colebatch aka Walter Colebatch. Good pics and good description of what is needed and where they go. There is also Terry who I think is on this site. Mide and co are currently working their way across a little bit each year so worth a PM.

For all the sarcasm you dish out, your replies are (in terms of actual helping) absolutely brilliant. I may actually love you.

As said, the planning of this trip is in its infancy, I know hee-haw about riding east of Turkey so I am gathering info and websites to put in a folder to educate myself.

Preparation is part of the fun...:D

Awwww, I’m touched. No, really, I am.

Have a great time, whatever you do.
