Is it possible to remove the front shock with taking the fuel tank off, the Haynes manual says to take the tank off, but it look like it might be possible, unless there are some hidden obstacles.

There is nothing wrong with it i just want to tidy it up.

When I did my shock on my 2012 TwinCam GSA, the haynes manual said to remove the fuel tank. After I started putting the bike back together I realised that I could've just undone the mounting bolts for the tank and slide it back 12 inches.

NB: Don't fill the tank to full on an ADV tank just before you have to remove it!

Here's a great thread by Cookie explaining just what's involved (also covers the rear shock)

NB Yes, on the GS (as opposed to GSA) you only need pull the tank back a couple of inches.

You dont have to,

but it is a lot easier

If you are removing the shock, chances are your top bushes will be nice and compressed ;)

I have brand new oem replacement kit sitting on the shelf at home if your interested

New upper bush, sleeve, lower bush, washer & locknut ;)

I think i have the original shock in the garage as well
