Just been announced by P and O that they are permanently cutting the Hull to Zeebrugge route due to lack of demand because of Coronavirus

It has gone the way of the Newcastle to Norway route

I Wonder If they will eventually reinstate it. I did use that route occasionally.

P and O have always said there were issues with the vessels width restrictions at Hull due the size of the lock meaning they cannot use a vessel the size that they do on the Rotterdam route.
The Pride of York and Bruge were due to be replaced as in recent years they have had expensive breakdowns and the other option would be a new facility alongside the one for the Rotterdam ferry in the main river channel .
Case of cutting their losses, wouldn't care I still have a credit for a trip and even last week they told us that bookings for the Hull to Zeebrugge would be available for next summer from 1st October 2020

Just another kick in the bollocks fir the north.

I went over to Germany a few weeks ago with my wife on the Hull-Zeebrugge route. It was full of freight but hardly any car/foot passengers. There were, literally, more staff then customers.

IIRC. I saw an item saying they had 2 new boats being built for this route.
I would be interested to know where this story came from. I’ve been following it online on the Hull Daily Mail page and lots of references like that are vague. Even an interview with a union rep who had an opinion. But so far I’ve not seen any confirmation from P&O.

I've not been officially told, and they've just sent me the Winter ITX business rates.

I use the Hull to Zeebrugge route frequently and will miss it if it does go ...

... or at least I did :blast

:beerjug:

The amount of people who loved the route and didn't use it regularly can't really grumble

It was a announced on the bbc red button news service late on last night

Bugger. That was my regular route.
Fecking HATE the south and never intend to use a channel crossing again.

Very odd , the article has been pulled from the bbc website since 9am and p and o now state that the route is under review

Hull > Rotterdam & Hull > Zeebrugge have become quite expensive over the last 2 years.

Yes they have gone up over the last couple of years. My last trip to Rotterdam with one bike plus passenger in a outside cabin was £515 quid.
