Bavaria

It’s one of those places we might go back to once we’ve got all the excitement back under control and Mrs B finally gets a new bike. We had a great time in the area and she not only found dunkelbier but they had more that she was willing to eat than just pizza on the menu :D

I really enjoyed doing the Romantic road.

I wouldn't advice anyone to go from the BF to Lindau alongside Konstance, possibly the worst decision I've made abroad.

The castles in Bavaria are quite something, the one on Schangau really is quite amazing.

Berstgardten and the Eagles nest of also recommend though I'm not sure if I'd stay in that area for 7 days, three or four possibly.

I second the advice on not going alongside Konstance. Unless you plan to stay in the area, the roads can be very congested, making progress really slow, with not much to see.

I keep dreaming up some idea to ride the whole of the Deutsche Alleenstraße, from top to bottom, carvings its way across Germany.

I was intrigued when I first came across the brown signs for it, when I went from Rugen island to Berlin, having never heard of it. I really like Germany for touring around in, kicking myself that I neglected going to the northern part for so many years.

There again, I really fancy the 10,000 km of the German regional ‘Motorcycle route’, which divides Germany up into four distinct quarters.

This used to be well detailed on the German state official tourist website but it seems to have vanished, as so many things do. I have taken the precaution of copying the routes into PDF’s in case they vanish again. What I should really do is cut the whole lot into BaseCamp and save them that way.

Here are some nice routes to the south and east of Munich

This book has 33 two and three day routes, radiating south from Munich. I think I may have a copy at home, if so I’ll do my best to dig it out.

Shready, if you take Wapping's route going via Karlruhe, can I suggest a stop off at Jockgrim which is 18kms north of there? My spiritual home and my mate Gunter has a biker friendly wee hotel called Zum Elefanten. Very clean, comfortable and decent rates for BnB
