Just a short RR of my trip to Southern Germany last week. :)

My plan was to get an early Tunnel out first thing on Monday morning and then head straight to Aachen just over the German border (about 200 miles) with only a socially distanced comfort stop in a layby so as have to avoid any need to quarantine on my return.

The sun was just coming up.

Once in Aachen I stopped to refuel myself and the bike. My route was to follow part of the Moselle Valley towards the Black Forest then head down to Lake Constance and then take part of the Deutsche Alpenstrasse to Oberstdorf.

Sunshine and showers along the Moselle Valley.

No Bounce or Nutty style gluttony on this trip.... so attempted to keep the calorie count down. :p

Apart from beer obviously. :D

A nice trip take lots of photos so you can remember the trip while isolating for 14 days on your return

Looks fantastic. In 1984 I lived and worked in Oberstdorf, brilliant time would love to return sometime.

No need to quarantine as Germany is on the exemption list and I was able to travel through France and Belgium outbound and return without having contact with the local population. UK border starts at the Tunnel French side.

Thanks for your concern mind.

You were lucky to get a trip in this season...just.

Now back to Essex, level 2 high alert wef 16/10, just to put life back into perspective.

I lived & worked in Ravensburg in 1986/87 .... beautiful part of the world, they even had beer vending machines in the factory in which I worked, employees could have a "cold one" whenever the felt the need :thumb

Thanks to Tricky for posting lovely pics and triggering some very fond memories :beerjug:

You timed that well, I think. Great photos, and love the framing effect. How was the Ducati for the trip?

It's a great bike with a stonking engine and a little bit different from a GS and I've had a few GSs. :D

No probs I had to quarantine when I went to Northern Germany and Poland back in August because I made the mistake of taking the Hook of Holland Ferry instead of the Tunnel. I wasn't going to make that mistake again. :blast

Leaving Shiltach the next morning it was pretty misty and foggy...

But I pressed on regardless.

By the time I got near to Lake Constance the mist had lifted and it was another beautiful day. :thumb2

I've been down this road before but never seen it so quiet. Which is good!

Great pics, but i cant help thinking

Either 28 days later or I am Legend

Not a solitary other person in any shot

I'm not sure Ducati do a holster for a samurai sword :nenau essential for dispatching mutants hiding in the shadows probably...

I'll check their catalogue later. :D

I booked into a nice little guesthouse in Oberstdorf run by a quant elderly couple. The male Mein Host was very entertaining although a bit camp... think Joel Grey (The Emcee in Cabaret) meets Larry Grayson. :D

My avocado en-suite was to die for!

Charmed by their hospitality I booked for a couple of nights.

The scenery around Oberstdorf wasn't too shabby either. :)

With Essex going into Tier Two from Saturday it was time to head for home. Also the weather had turned with cloud, rain and snow amongst the forecast. So I took the autobahn north and booked a hotel in Aachen for my last night before the dash to the Tunnel. :thumb2

Brilliant trip report. Autumn is a great time to go. I went to the Eifel region at the end of September with a mate and we had a great time. Did the same as you, used the tunnel and blitzed it across northern France and Belgium without stopping so no need to quarantine. Happy days
