is cerakote the right choice

more random items... hand bags, I was approached to coat some really expensive handbag bases, openings, handles catches etc...... (expensive as in 10K a bag)

they tried hard coat anodised that wasn't hard enough and wore out very quickly so we did a reduced cost test in black as we've always got it in stock then.... then did red, tungsten, yellow and blue.... limited run urgent and for the arab market.... very high ticket price...

they tried anodised and standard paint... both failed so cerakote was a better choice... the first image is on the anodised offering... then we got in the white samples to do... strange job... but they paid so it was fine...

the biggest issue was not having any fixtures to hold the items while in process... as everything leaves a mark of some sort...

the main caviat is motorcycle exhausts are low to the ground and exposed, so it's very similar to being in a grit blaster... it will wear off at some point so cerakote forms a good basis of preventing wear and tear...

I'll have to disassemble and re-paint the rear frame of my GSA as it is showing some rusting here and there (just a painful job, so postponing it).
This coating seems to be a better option than just re-painting it.

I'll be in touch at some point in the next few months :)

the ducati was a nightmare for that reason, I had to chase the rust I found under the undercoat around for ages... then once I had it all under control get it into process....

at the moment we've got tons of these to do... hipsters... eh... you've got to love'em.... they tried with rattle cans... and that didn't really work...

we do a fair amount production equipment updating, restoring, general preservation of stuff that's been used in film and TV .... cerakote is a viable product for this...

however

there was a thread on here a while back about repairing aluminium wheels, I wouldn't use cerakote for that that more a me thing than the paint... it's such a nightmare you need some really specialised kit which costs tons and unless you've got heaps of volume going through I really can't see how you could ever get a return.

cerakote and the hobbiest...

you can buy the stuff and if you have a go with it... all you need is dry air, HVLP spray gun a space to operate in... things to remember it's posionous and should be treated with care..

other finishing products

there's loads of different things you can mess about with...

each has a different application each has a place...

Would love to get my Givi mounting plate and crash bars from my Crosstourer done.

Cost of postage over and back would take the good out of it I would imagine.

S20 5G sent this......

you'll have a local accreditted cerakote place... and see what they come back with... cost wise...

www.cerakote.com

find an applicator

or wait till I do my tour and will come and collect... :)

I was looking a few data sheets and found this from PBN who are/ was our training partner for accreditation and to whom we defer to incase it ever gets really complex.....

direct heat of around 1,100 degrees applied.... and the paint stays intack...

Carl did the brake calipers for my Montjuic and they came back looking like new and for the more ham fisted amongst us (that’s me then) the fact that brake fluid doesn’t fetch the coating off is a bonus.

The guy who rebuilt the forks also used someone local to him to Cerakote the fork bottoms and they’ve come back looking good as well so it almost looks like a new front end.

It’s a good process as far as I’m concerned :thumb2

just bringing this thread back to the top.... cos someone sent me a message about cerakote....

no problem I've got to pop up to Leeds to colect some parts in early Jan.

I might have some parts from my 1100 to do in the coming months.

I could do with some Harley zorsts doing, I'll drop you a pm after Christmas?:thumb
