We’re riding BMW’s new £19,480 M1000R at its world launch today. It may look like an M-liveried S1000R with added wings, but there’s a lot more going on under its skimpy skin. It gets the full fat ShiftCam engine from the S1000RR, jacking power up from the S1000R's 163bhp to a class-leading 207bhp and top speed jumps from a claimed 158mph to 174mph. It also has shorter gearing, Nissin ‘M’ calipers and a full brace of electronics including a new rider aid to help you slide corners on the brakes. Extra goodies include everything from those wings to a racing chain, titanium Akrapovic end can, bar end mirrors, a lightweight lithium battery, keyless ignition…the list goes on. Is it worth nearly five grand more than the S1000R Sport (and seven more than the base model) and how will it stack up against the giants of the super naked class ?
