My nephew, a keen bicyclist, has plans on going solo camping. I thought I might buy him a tent, good enough for one person (he’s not Tosser sized) that can be backpacked or put onto a bicycle.

The Vango Nevis 100 looks OK

The Robens Arrow Head, too...

but if anyone has any sensible suggestions (I am not going to spank out on a Hilleberg, believe me) I’d be interested to hear them and, more importantly, why. Similarly, if anyone has a very good one man tent in tip-top condition, sing up.

Thank you.

Ive also got a very good quality exped duck down sleeping mat which again, only been used two or three times ...

Since getting an ebike it's something that I've also considered, my problem is I'd want to carry my brukit and tons of food etc as well.

Vango Tempest 200
I have used mine for the last 12 years for all my hiking and light biking trips.
Packs down small, lightweight with great performance and is, the bottom line, cheap to buy. (Replace the pegs with some ally Terra hiker pegs)

another vango the Banshee 200 or 300, both small lightweight and really good tents

Check out his other vids for all camping related gear:beerjug:

Nooo, horrible things. 2 man is far better. If it’s pissing down you can get the tent up, climb inside, and then sort you gear out, and get changed into dry clothes. In a 1 man you can barely turn round.

Yeah ... mine is ‘two man’ and it’s pokey enough as it is, how the feck you can do anything in a one man other than lye still in a straight line!

Most two man tents are really like 1.5 man anyway and the extra room is worth it to get kit in. I’m a fan of Terra Nova with this version weighing in at just 1.75kg. You pay extra for the lighter you go and the more technical you need, of course, but worth it if at times you’re carrying it.

Part of the terra nova group; Wild country Helm 2 looks a good set up; pitchng tent and inner in one makes hell of a difference to keeping dry quick; and bags of room in the helm 2; all for under £200.

I have the Ultralight version of the Voyager, which is actually longer than the standard version.
1.4kg all in, it is a cracker of a lightweight tent.
Only blight is the inner pitch issue that only reared it's ugly head trying to pitch in an autumn storm on South Uist.

But as a luxurious 1 man tent for cycling in most conditions, I can't think of much better to be honest.
