Hi,
I have bought a T500 same as one I owned back in 1973... and found left head gasket leaking. The 4 x 8mm screws had been overtightened and now I have oversize inserts in the barrel. Mechanically, this will be ok, as long as I tighten the 8mm screws to 14.4 lb ft and not to 25 lb ft which is for the 4 x 10mm sleeve nuts.

The barrel and head sealing surfaces are in very good nick and the head is not warped. The cylinder liner top land is slightly proud of the barrel, so well set for a good seal.

The bolt spacing on the old gasket shows some wishful thinking in Suzuki-land back in the day - anyhow, my question is should I put the least smear of shellac on the new aluminium head gasket?

Spray on copper gasket ..... helps

I used to run one of those , I was advised you could leave the smaller screw bolts out so long as you torqued the sleeve bolts properly. It certainly never leaked or cracked though I did think it would . GreT bikes , hard to find at a reasonable cost now . Sold my minter in 1990 for £400 😭
