Airhead 80-100 G/S Adventure Build

Last bit of fettling …

Tank has fuel in it, float levels re-set, carbs balanced again, a few last bits of wiring and headlight aim sorted.

My work here is done.

First quick ride around the block, carbs need a little more work, but my god this thing is awesome!

It looks really purposeful. You need to do a big big trip on it once you’ve run it in……

Not yet, it’s been freezing here, all the roads covered in salt and I’m not taking it out to in that!

The 1200 GSA is another matter…

Right, we’re ready to start on option 2

This will be the lightweight/enduro variant with fork mount fairing and ST tank.

Thanks Reg for dropping off the GS fairing, good to see you again.

And I’m pleased to report the bike passed the Reggie Moule sniff test.

Right, managed to break into the tank.

Not so sure about this one!

Looks quite rusty inside. Any advice? I’ve not restored a tank before.

That black tank is NOT a ST tank….. it’s a paralever GS, or r100/80r tank. ( the r100r tanks don’t have the seat loop on the back end,)

As ST tank looks like a g/s tank, but different filler cap.

Bike looks good

Cheers Bubb

Yes I discovered that while trying to order 81mm dia bmw decals for an ST tank …

Mikeyboy’s suggestion prompted me to look for an acid dip, luckily there’s a fella just up the road

So this big boy is going for a trip tomorrow.

But a quick fettle gets them sorted

Just waiting for the seals and filters to drop and they will be ready.

Need to find a local spray painter,

This tank will be alpine white pearl with GS decals, like my old SE.

Ooh, now. The local powder coater a can do arctic white pearlescent.

It’s going to be the ‘enduro’ setup so will have quite a hard life.

I see a plan coming together …

Personally,I wouldn’t powder a tank, although very tough it’s a plastic, and will not polish up,any attempt to polish it will actually make it dull.
A bit like plastic mudguards.
Unless your powder man can do some form of lacquer over the top of the powder?
