2021 1290S

When you say side rails ? can you show me pictures please? panniers off. also re roll up bag ive look dat them but it just like a big sack when you open it and you have to ferret through everything i was looking at a kuryakin bag but after all the messing about i may just buy panniers what inner bags do u use? and what discount should i push for. ?

Hi Derek

See here for picture of bike with Panniers off - will sort out some closer shots later today.

Currently seeing what "old" inner bags I have that fit - may sort out some proper KTM ones (if they do them) or some aftermarket ones in due course.

UK bikes don’t have this canister do not an issue.

My 2018 model does have one directly under pillion seat. Drainage hoses come down next to a shift lever. It is part of the Euro 4-5 emissions regs. So is a must.

For Derek

Pictures of luggage rails:

They are also a "floating" design and so supposed to improve stability at speed with luggage fitted.

This is my melting plug - see that I have just clipped mine out of the way till the replacement is fitted. Mine has already started to melt as you can see

Cobrra Nemo 2

Decided against fitting my old Scottoiler particularly as there appears to be no easily accessible vacuum take off like there was on the old 1190/1290's.

So decided to try the Cobrra which needs no connection to a vacuum pipe or the bikes electrics. https://www.cobrra.co.uk/nemo-2/

Mounted the unit on the left mirror mount - needed to space it out 20mm to get the correct clearance and ended up using a Scottoiler bracket for the delivery end. Think it looks like a neat solution and will test it out on Saturday :)

I used a cheap copy of the Cobra which works well. Planned to mount it as you have but couldn’t see away to route the oil pipe without having to strip off the tank plastics, so mounted it down next to the rear brake fluid reservoir. Just give it a quarter turn at every fuel stop.

Top tank panel comes off really easily - side ones not too difficult either ;)

Was tempted by the cheap Chines copies at a fraction of the price but did not like the thought (remote as it may be) of it dropping the whole contents of the reservoir in one go onto the back wheel if it all went wrong :augie

Givi Top Plate

Givi still not doing an adapter kit plate for the 2021 and the old one does not fit as the spacing of the bolts is different :blast

But a chap over on Adventure Rider reckoned that the Alt Rider plate still fits the latest model so gave it a go and yes it does fit as it uses the outside bolt holes which have the same spacing as the old one :)

Just for Andres who I know likes a good top box :D

Also great service from the Adventure Bike Shop :thumb2

OK - had the bike 5 weeks now and still no sign of the High Ergo seat I paid for.

Judd doing what they can but issue looks to be with KTM UK/KTM Austria.

Just used the online contact on the KTM UK web site to raise the issue with them and got an automated reply:

Thank you for contacting KTM Group Customer Service. Your case has been created.

Someone will assist you soon.

Best regards,
KTM Group

Mildly interested to see what kind of assistance they come up with but will not be holding my breath ;)

Well...I'd like to second that. Got a trip booked and have had stress as no available Bumot frames in Uk for the 1290. I have panniers that I bought 3 years ago off them.

First of all adventure bike shop rang some of their existing customers who had bought a set and asked them if they would be prepared to lend/buy theirs and get a brand-new set in September. That didn't work out but how incredible that they were prepared to try!

I found some in Belgium. They wouldn't export to me as have had lots of post Brexit issues. I mentioned it to adventure bike shop and they contacted him and have arranged collection to get me out of a fix. Frankly, I'm blown away with their attitude and customers service. Great!!

Ah you’re the reason Jenny rang me then - we’re off in a couple of weeks so couldn’t forward the frames - good to hear you’re all sorted though.

Well, hopefully. What a star she is.

I mentioned I had damaged one of the plastic corners and if she could send me one with the frames - arrived in the post the next day FOC!

Changing the subject: I got the matt grey model. Having the panels lacquered at the moment which isn't expensive and I'm hoping it'll make the bike a lot smarter. Will post some pics.

Grey panels lacquered.

Although they haven't made a very good job of the lacquer it does make the bike look 100% better in my opinion. Looks very good in the flesh, not so sure the pictures show it off.

That looks 100% better than the Matt Grey. Definately going to get mine done.

Agreed.

They haven't been flatted back and polished yet, but to be honest I might go and get them re-done.

WARNING: TELL WHOEVER YOU GET TO DO IT NOT TO PUSH THROUGHT THE GREY PAINT OR THE ORANGE STICKERS ON THE EXPOSED EDGES! - Obvious you'd have thought! :blast:blast:blast

I’ve decided that it’s time to see what all this orange fuss is about so I’ve taken the plunge and arranged a test ride on a new 1290 SAS on Friday. I wanted to ride the ‘R’ but Didcot don’t have any available so I’ve settled for the S.
Being completely in the dark about the big KTM what the ‘real world’ difference between the two?
