I’m thinking of switching from my 1250GS to a 1250RS. I can understand how the ride height/pre-load/damping is adjusted by the ESA on the telelever front suspension on the GS, but how does it work on the telescopic front forks on the RS?

Does the ESA adjust anything at the front or does it just control the rear? I’ve downloaded the RS riders handbook on-line but it doesn’t seem to make any specific reference to adjusting the front suspension whether you have ESA or not.

ESA sets the damping on the front forks (no telelever), both preload and damping on the shock.

Without the ESA you get a shock with adjustable preload and damping, both using knobs. No adjustment on the front.

This probably reflects the weight bias on the bike, the rider + pillion etc don't make a huge difference at the front.
