Rickman Metisse

Giss a go Mr!

Bloody lovely and with a brilliant engine, do you choose the colour?

This is the engine I’m using, freshly rebuilt with new pistons, rebore, cam chain and tensioners etc.
The rocker assembly and cover will be fitted when the engine is in.

I chose the colour, but there are a wide range of colours. The colour is Battleship Grey.

I bet it won't leak oil like a 'Triumph' either! I put mine together carefully, and I can always spot where my Cheney has been parked.

I had a 1980 XS650B new on which I did thousands of trouble free miles - great engine, handling not so good. Should be an ideal set up with a decent chassis. When I sold it I bought a 650 5 speed Bonneville in pieces, not comparable really!

And so it starts, seeing as the frame is so shiny I’ve polished the yokes, I’m using XT500 forks and wheels, I’m trying to keep the bike looking 70’s period hence sticking with drum brakes. The levers are copies of Tomasselli’s.

I had the 650XS2 back in 1974 - great engine but a plastic frame!

That Metisse frame is pure sex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That looks like a lovely project. I’ve always liked the looks of the Metisse framed bikes.
A mate is finally getting his finished...it’s been a project for a long time...but his is a triumph engine (500 Daytona I think).

Please continue to update us with progress....

Thats a great project, looking forward to seeing the progress.

Something to whet your appetite.......

Are you building the wheels up yourself? I’ve done a few and quite rewarding when done. Reluctant to put tyres on myself with levers on shiny new rims!
How did you work out the offset for the rims or were you supplied with the info?

Wheels built today, Excel valanced rims with stainless spokes. Tyres should arrive next week, I’ll be making stainless wheel spindles and castle nuts next week.Once the rear shocks arrive I can put it on two wheels and then engine will go in.
