Just considering buying a Rallye 2 jacket to wear in Morocco for a tour at the end of May. / beginning of June. Is that likely to be too hot? Would a forcefield armoured shirt and a pullover be a better idea?

We are touring the Atlas Mountains, and some time in the Sahara as well.

Anybody advice from someone who’s been would be much appreciated.

With the liner out and the vents open they are one of the coolest jackets out there.

With the liner in, vents closed and decent layering they are toasty warm.

I used my old one in Maroc having been in Feb and in September, I'd say it'd be a perfect jacket to use.

Are you riding down through Spain - that will be a factor.

Armoured shirt would be a good idea as it will be on the hot side - cooler in the mountains of course.

A Rally suit should be fine - it's when you stop you heat up.

Question asked many times and seems there are two views. One is mesh or some derivative of mesh, in your example the Forcefield shirt, the other is a vented jacket, the Rally. Everyone has their preference. I’ve tried both and much prefer the vented jacket, as you can block the wind out when it is just too hot, which you can’t with mesh. Also less dehydration, still need to drink a lot but it’s possible to keep up with the fluid loss, with mesh it’s not you will be dehydrated. The above assumes temps above 35c. Also with the vents closed the ride through the UK & France etc is comfortable with the correct layers. My mesh jacket & trousers were only worn for one trip, never again!

Thanks for the input chaps. Bought one!

I may look at wearing my BMW City Trousers (Cargo style trousers) with the jacket as they're really comfy. Just have to hope we can go now!

How hot will it be?

How hot will YOU be? Are you somebody who boils when the mercury hits 22 C and digs out the electric vest when it hits 15 C? Do you eschew a coat when it's snowing, like some mini-skirted trollope on the lash and pull in Newcastle or Cardiff?

Will you look cool?

The internet has a host of historic data for temperatures in Morocco (it's a big place) draw your own conclusions.

Looking cool is priority numero uno.

So is, understanding that Morocco is indeed a big place. The morning that the picture was taken I was sweltering in low 30's temps, I then rode up a little hill called the High Atlas and was stuck here for two days until they cleared the roads........... From all vents open to electric waistcoat on full, all in one day,

Well, that is about as useless as tits on a bull. The OP is going in late May to June.

Bookmarked though, in case some punter turns up asking about mid-winter. I can appear as helpful as a helpful thing and win plaudits and garlands and sweets and things.

It was more aimed at finding out how well vented Rallye 2 pro jackets are tbh.

Unfortunately having googled “Rallye 2 pro jacket venting” it didn’t really help, hence the question.

Wapping, it would be a really tedious forum if the answer to every query on here was “Google it... there’s loads of websites with the answer”...:nenau

It will be warm.

We also learned what it was like in February, which is handy.

Nobody else gave you links to specific websites, where you could draw your own conclusions as to whether you’d find the clothing suitable or not, based on your own past experiences and imagination.

What did people do before the internet and UKGSer?

Enjoy your holiday.

Slapped piss takers in person.

OP, any of the top jackets would do the job to be fair, as the venting is pretty good. If you're on the move, you tend to be ok, but stationary everything will seem warm.

I went Rallye to Klim and find them better for each end of the extremes. They're also a step ahead in terms of water repellent properties from the Rallye versions, but the Rallye is a great jacket.

I'd rather be a little hot and have a full jacket on personally, but that's just me.

Don’t forget, well vented gloves and helmet also help keep a little fresher.

I once went there in May, it was fcuking boiling. Hope this helps.

Airflow all the way and a good set of waterproofs in case......... most of the time you will sweat ya nuts of...... take plenty of water..

Amen to that....

Thanks for the helpful posts chaps. Picked up a (slightly) used Rallye 2 Pro off here which seems to have vents everywhere and will do nicely. Planning on using my BMW City trousers with the jacket as they zip in, breathe really well and are stupidly comfy.
