Versys 650 .... refresh or ???????

Lovely, remind me, how much damage did the original swing arm have? Could now not be the time to fix it up?

I got a price from a good welder to sort it but to be honest once the welding was paid for and then the powder coating (plus new bearings) it would cost well over £200 and the steel one does exactly the same job

Agree with you, and for a long distance travelling machine, steel can be repaired anywhere.

The steel swinging arm is only 1.5 kgs heavier than the alloy one ,so in the grand scheme of things it makes no difference and to be honest I like the look of it.

It is the swinging arm of choice of the yanks when ' adventurising ' the Versys and is less susceptible to getting dinked .

Tomorrow I need to get the number plate bracket and a few more bits in the blast cabinet and painted

Powder coater did tell me that should he get another Versys frame in he will be charging more money as it took a lot longer to blast and powder coat due to its complex and fussy design

bit more today

Engine mounted on the stand this morning , fully degreased and pressure washed off , will clean off any loose paint and etch prime it tomorrow , have some PJ1 Yamaha silver engine paint that is a match so if I can get some heat into the garage I may get it done this week

got the casings cleaned up , etch primed and painted so it is just a case of leaving the paint for a week or so to harden off properly and then refit.

in the mean time I can box on getting the downpipes and exhaust polished up and the last of the brackets blasted and painted

How much were you planning on selling this for? It looks great!

Will do a full service on it even though it was done last year and has done nothing since then , I will run it for a month or so and then put a full years test on it and probably put it up about £2200 .

When I put it up for sale I will redo my original advert with new pictures .

To be honest it is keeping boredom at bay and giving me the incentive to finish off my gsx750ef project I started over 10 years ago , my stalled VW Scirocco mk2 tdi conversion project and the refresh on my CCM 404E

This is next

Decent day today , pulled the rocker cover off and checked the valve clearances ( plugs are fine , new NGK Iridiums fitted less than 200 miles ago) , dropped the oil and fitted a new filter and took off the thermostat and water pump housings and blasted primed and painted them .

Also stripped the sidestand, belly pan mounts and painted them as well.

Think I deserve a cup of tea

Well got a full rolling chassis with front and rear electrics all connected up , engine is ready to go back in next week and had a bit play with the polishing mops today.

The Black Widow stainless steel downpipes came up really nice and I will do the same with the silencer

Great job. :okay I did similar for a friend with his VFR750 many moons ago, it’s very satisfying when it all begins to take shape.

Well got the silencer polished , not bad for 13 years old Japanese stainless steel, also got all the auxiliary fusebox wired up so it is ready for the engine to go back in
