Anybody got one they take with them on trips abroad?
I have a purification system in my motorhome that I use all the time and want something to take away with me when we finally get out and about again.
I’ve been looking at the MSR Guardian jobbie. It seems to be the best available and can do a fair amount of water quickly.

i have an older version , filter does 750 lts / filter. but then there is only me to pump water. i'd spend £300 if, i was going somewhere where water isn't , but in Europe you can always get water , you just have to know where to find it . i also carry a 1lt bottle with a silver/ceramic filter for walking around ....and some puri tabs.

how about this

Yeah, that sort of thing. That particular one does seem a bit on the small side but definitely the right type of thing. :thumb2

What about a Steripen?
You only need to kill the bacteria, it doesn't require glacial filtered purity.

I think it’s got to be the Katadyn Pocket one. Especially as there’s a new for 2021 “ tactical black “ one out! :D

What's wrong with iodine tablets?

Absolutely nothing. But I’m going to do a fair bit of solo wild camping around Scandinavia in the next few years so would prefer a filter I can carry about and use in any water source I can find. :thumb2

I have both a Katadyn Pocket and an MSR Miniworks. Both are field serviceable and both have similar filtration levels and outputs. I like the robustness of the Katadyn but prefer the lighter weight of the MSR and the fact that it it screw directly onto the top of a water bottle, just seems a bit more convenient and user friendly.
Note, both can be wrecked if they freeze while the filter element is wet.

Ooh, good point. Not thought about that. :thumb2

If you're in or expecting freezing conditions the 'workaround' is to keep it in a waterproof bag inside your jacket during the day and in your sleeping bag with you overnight.

Katadyn products are very effective. I have a Hiker Pro which I have used often in rather unappetising water sources and no immodium required

I finally bought a Katadyn Pocket. That’s another thing off the list. :thumb2
