This has a connection to a week in Austria?
Oh, for fuck’s sake....
AndyB_11 posted about the horrors of hiring a house. I simply posted that we hire a house for about a week for Le Mans, with no problems.
My experience referenced Le Mans, as I haven’t stayed in a rented house in Austria. Andy’s was when mountain climbing, location unknown and on general holidays. I could have said that we (a diverse bunch of us) also rented an apartment in Rome, to watch an Italy / Ireland rugby match, without any problems. Friends have rented houses together in South Africa, again with no problems.
Here to help you, is it set out in sequence:
Planning this trip for June, yes I know we will all be dead by then, and plan to spend a week in Austria. My question is would it be better to rent a house in a central position or tour using hotels. 3/4 bikes and people.
Regards Steve
Any shared accommodation with others apart from your partner is a bad idea. Honestly it really is a bad idea.
Someone is always last for a shower and gets cold water.
Someone is always banging on the toilet door because they’re touching cloth.
Someone leaves a skid mark down the back of the toilet.
Someone uses the last of the toilet roll and doesn’t replace it.
Someone comes in after the others and makes a noise.
Someone gets up earlier than the others and makes a noise.
Someone leaves empty take away boxes and dirty plates on the table.
Someone leaves empty beer or wine bottles on the table.
I’ve shared accommodation on biking trips, mountaineering trips (they’re the worst) and on general holidays where a few couples rent a villa and there’s always stress at some point so go for hotels. It’s far easier to base yourself in a hotel for a couple of days so luggage can be left behind, you’re not hitting a deadline to eat breakfast, load the bikes and get going. You can also have a day away from others by doing your own thing without worrying where you’re going to stop that evening if there’s a hiccup.
We rent a house for just under a week for Le Mans. Works well; cheap too.
Got it now?
Yes? Great. Now, what are your pearls of wisdom as to whether the OP and his 3/4 bikes and people should:
A. Stay in a hotel in the middle of Austria
B. Rent a property in the middle of Austria
C. Stay in several hotels
Any experience you have as regards B above would of course be welcome. I am ambivalent as to what he does, thinking that the OP and his 3/4 bikes and people, can and probably should work it out for themselves. Not least as he knows them and they know him, which is a big help when deciding what accommodation will suit them all for their holiday. He / they will also know (or at least should) where to position the rented house and / or hotel(s) as they will know what it is they plan on doing in Austria, which is (as has been confirmed) a very big place.
