I did some tests in the car and my previous assumption about being able to use the Talkytoaster maps for (basic) routable navigation on the road back home was wrong.
As he advises on the site, they are not feasible for road riding.

Not a big deal. I'll keep using them offroad and then I'll switch SD card when on the way home let the sat nav calculate a route.

Question is: I need some fairly updated routable maps to install on my old 60cx. South of England.
I tried to install the City Navigator I have for my Zumo XT, but those are locked.

I think some OpenStreet maps would be ok. I'm happy to pay (a moderate amount) as well.
There is a massive amount of OS maps out there. Any pointers on the best ones to use for road riding in the UK?
What are you guys using?

There are dodgy utilities available to break Garming's copyright but since Zumo XT maps are (almost certainly as I've never used one) the current NTU version which gives strange problems on older units it's a bit academic. Better to go to http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ and get legal maps for free. Only disadvantages are file size (although all the UK fits in a 2GB memory card) and they're not great with UK postcodes. It's what I used for UK and France when I used a BMW Nav II.

Thanks.
Nah I don't want to 'hack' the XT maps.

I generally will need the GPS to route me from wherever I emerge at the end of greenlaning towards home, so postcodes being not great is not a big issue, if the rest of the map is functional.

I don't think the openstreetmap.nl maps are updated anymore. There's a list of OSM sources here:
