With regard to head shake etc, took it for a spin and there’s nothing at low speed. Can take hands off bars at 35 ish there’s nothing. All good.

Only seems to happen with a top box on, or luggage, and when slowing down from speed or on mine, with luggage on at above 90mph. Be interested to hear how yours behaves with luggage, and I haven’t had chance to test mine with the new luggage at motorway speeds since Premier Bikes fettled it.

Ok ta, and to Paul S too
Will need to source one then.

Out of interest, did you get a docs folder with your bikes ?
My mate said he got nothing ! I know the manual is now online and downloadable and service record is stored online, but thought the bikes would still come with some documentation .

I did get a docs folder, but only because Premier gave me one, and a service book too - but there's nothing at all from KTM now

No docs folder, just the key and the emergency fob.Cracking looking bike

Thanks boys.
I’ll chase the spare key fob thingy with my dealer.

Just been out in semi darkness to see what the lights are like

Loving everything about it so far, though maybe not the My Ride which seems just as temperamental as my old bike to connect properly to phone and helmet each time !!!

Looks nice Arsey. Looks a tall bike though. Do they do a low version like the GS ?

Arsey, forget the bluetooth connection to your helmet, like on the GS its flakey.
Instead on the KTM you can set the helmet type to wired.
You can still control your phone etc through the bike, answer calls play music turn the volume up and down, only the phone is paired bluetooth to your helmet and the phone to the KTM.

Sweet looking bike that…..enjoy..

Might be worth a look at rear spring rate and fitting a slightly stiffer one. The last R was rated to a 75kg rider. I stiffened the rear spring by 25% which transformed the bike.

And you’ll save me doing it when I buy it off you …

So, I take it all back.

Firstly my mate texts me and says he’s found the spare ‘key’ that he NEVER had !!! Bloody muppet !

Just collected it

And with regard to My Ride, it’s been flawless this morning.
Connected first time when I turned on GT Air II and also reconnected after stopping three times and turning ignition off.
Have set up the shortcut C2 button to go straight to audio.
And I can still connect to wife’s helmet via intercom.
I’m sure my old 1290R had a Rider and Pillion Headset thingy on the menu ?

No but they do a low seat for northern oompah loompahs.
The standard seat is much lower than previous models.I can flat foot both sides unlike previously.

See above. Seems to be just fine.

Silly question, but how do you know it was rated to 75kgs ?
Where did you get stiffer spring ?

I don’t think My Ride is worth bothering with. It interferes with music, and I can’t see anything useful it does so I have turned Bluetooth off on the bike.

I have a Zumo XT mounted above the dash, so if that’s fitted I Bluetooth to that and if not just Bluetooth straight to my headset.

Haven’t checked if it does car play, though.

Not at all - I got the data sheets off Andy at Premier Bikes.

Once you find out the spec of the spring - it will be something like 60-63-66-225, then add 25 % to the last fig which is the compression rating in N/mm in this case 225 goes to 281 ish. It’ll be different for your bike mind.

You’ll need someone to swap the springs over and I get a specialist to then balance the front and rear prepaid and damping - I use Mark Hammond at MHRacing - just outside Swindon.

I use these guys to make springs https://springcoil.co.uk/ talk to David Russell - or you might be able to get them off the shelf from K-Tech or Hyperpro.

+1 for MH Racing. Knows his beans.

Loving it so far . Came with Pirelli Rally STRs fitted. My favourite tyre !
Were the AX41 or Karoo 3s the OE tyre ?

AX41 was what mine came with and I’ll replace with something a little more off road bias this year

As a 5 foot 9 and 29 inside leg short arse I put the low power parts seat on mine and it’s just about doable for me - better than standard seat comfort wise too

Been out for a brief ride again today.
I must say that I’m astounded at how much better the new bikes are compared to the previous bikes.
I never gelled with the 2017 1290R.Could never quite say why.It just seemed a bit undefined and unfinished.
I know KTMs are supposed to be a bit raw-I’ve had a KTM in the garage continuously from 1998 until I sold my 1290R in late 2018.But there was always something missing with that last bike.Getting another 1290R wasn’t really on my radar until I rode this bike, as it was up for sale.
I was gobsmacked-everything about the bike is better than previously. The motor is utterly sublime-the fuelling is so much better.I can’t fault it. Where the old bike would shudder and stutter at very low revs, the new one just pulls away.It sounds better too !
KTM gearboxes have always been pretty good, certainly better than on any GS I’ve had. But again the new bike is in a different league.Probably the best gearbox and quick shifter I’ve ever had.
The handling is also fabulous.OK, I’ve got comparatively skinny rubber on 21/18 wheels , but by adopting the pannier tank idea as first featured on the 790 Adv, the c of g is so much lower and the bike just tips in then tracks a corner so neutrally and easily.
The TFT is a huge improvement on the previous bike.Even the nav guidance works well together with the KTM Nav app.
The fit and finish of the bike seems much better. The screen is much better-though I do have the taller S screen on my R.
The cubby hole with USB even takes my iPhone, FFS ! :)
The backlit switchgear is another huge improvement .
Infact the only fault I can so far find with the bike is the bastard indicator switch. It’s crap.
Yes, I know you have to kind of push down and in , but it’s still a bit hit and miss.
But overall, the bike is in a totally different league to the previous model.
If you have the older bike and assume the newer bike is just a tad different, probably best not to try one as you’ll not want to give it back !!!!

A gratuitous pic from today.

Stop saying it is so much better, I am happy with mine and a bit skint!

I love my 2018 S Model, luckily on a back-to-back-to-back test ride when mine was last serviced the differences seemed very small - certainly not worth the upgrade cost, I suspect a lot of the improvements would show up more over a longer term rather than a 1 hour spin.

IMHO the biggest difference is it fits smaller people - but for me it felt cramped (34" inside leg) so I would have to try the taller seat options.

It also felt low at the back to me, with a sat-in riding position, I love the sat-on position of the older model, I immediately put pre-load up to 100% on demo ride and it still felt as if it was 2 inches too low at the back - but I suspect I would get used to that, and taller seat in highest position may offset the "issue"

Unfortunately demo did not have QS, as that is one thing (well gearbox in general) I have found a little crap on the 3 1X90s we have owned, all can be a bit notchy and I get the odd false neutral with the QS.

Like the new Air Filter location - a big benefit to anyone who wants to do home maintenance.

One question )that probably cannot be answered until July) - Has the heat to the legs been reduced? I find my 1290 be be a bit better than the 1190 I owned (Both had insulated rear headers fitted) and it is not really that noticeable until temps well into 20's, but by 30c I find I have to hang one leg out a bit to avoid it being roasted.
