Hi all, quick question for those that may have owned both bikes.:D
If you had the choice of a mint condition ,low miles 2008 950 SE with all the trick parts,
Sm wheels,big tank etc.
Or ,
A new or nearly new 701E.
Which would you have and why.
I think I’ve made my mind up ,but am interested in others opinions on the bikes.
Both bikes would need some mods to the suspension as I’m a short arse.:comfort

I've just pulled the trigger on a 701E and have already sorted some SM wheels.........

BUT that 950 sounds tempting................

Does that help? :D

I’d also say SE although, having had neither, what do I know?
Had a chat with a guy on a 701 in Trempe (?) on an AVR do who reported that it was very light on the front - required quite a lot of reworking to get it acceptable!

I like light on the front:green gri
I’ll bet diamonds a 701 isn’t as light at the front as a 950:cool:

Perhaps I'm bias but everyone should own a good SE at least once in their life if they want to know what a real motorbike feels like ;)

The 701 feels as planted as the 950 but is MUCH lighter to chuck around .It’s about 45/50kgs lighter (high 30s for my LR) but the difference seems bigger.
The 701 is much more agile in back lanes etc,but the 950 does have a special feel that is difficult to replicate.

950 is a classic, get one while you can. Engine mods are relatively straightforward and I got loads of useful gen from the forum. Suspension setup is something else altogether and I wish I’d take mine to a specialist. Setup for me is something I know I like when I try it, but I’m not able to diagnose the problems, especially on bikes with loads of adjustment.

950SE every time. And I know where there’s a good ‘un as well.

I’d need either bike about 50/75 mm lower.
I’ve had a 690 and 525 ktm.
But not ridden the latest 701 or 690.
The 50kg weight difference is a big consideration, but if I didn’t gel with the big beastie it could soon be swapped for a lighter bike.

And there is your answer :thumb2

Buy the 701, not get on with it, sell it lose money.

Buy the 950, not get on with it, sell it and break even or be quids in.

Possu on here and advrider had a 950SE. He’s about your size. Used to ride it down to central and Southern Europe, hoon about and ride it back.
