The 701 Info Thread.

I think this bloke has the 701 pretty much nailed.

Cant vouch for the wheelie stuff, as I'm utterly useless at them, but can confirm what he says about getting bitten if you're a bit careless with the throttle :D

That was a nice little article. I did have a wry smile when he said he’d been out of action due to an injury (given who sponsors the vid) ;)

Oh and a 2020? bike with failed clutch slave......

Nice little video and agree with pretty much everything they said. I’ve been fortunate enough to ride some of the trails featured in their video (but only on the Husky 350), and I do remember they were quite steep and rocky, so would be interesting to see how I’d get on with the 690 on them - note to self to have a go sometime soon!

With regards to the road riding, I find the handling to be really good on the OE wheel sizes, but I do find it prefers you to ride it a bit more SuperMoto stylee rather than try hanging off.

Definitely a bit more "push it down underneath you style" IMO.

..And 2021s apparently.

I have a pair of Knox gloves that I really like off road and on. they have that Boa tightening thing on the wrist. Called Orsas?

I have a little black replacement sat on top of my boxes of rubbish to bolt to the bike when it arrives :)

1. I shouldn’t have watched the video.
2. I should go to the Lake District.

Had a great, but hard by my standards, day out on the Dorset lanes with the TRF on mine yesterday. I didn't fall off, so that's a good result :)

I'm an absolute beginner offroad.
I spent a day on the 701 when doing the Desert Rose course last year as I requested a heavier bike. Loved it.
Didn't fell off it either (fell off one the 350ies later on in the same day :D )

I didn't have (still probably don't) enough "reference points" to gauge if that's right the bike I'd like to have: dual sport that could do a bit more (comfortable) travel than my current DRZ400 learner bike.
I'd be a bit scared offroad of the engine power though, as most pointed out.

I'll keep following you guys here and dreaming about it :)

Don’t worry, they are quite robust - we are chucking ours into hedges quite regularly :D

At least you are learning. Instead of asking how to turn off a bike :D

What panniers are you guys using, I saw this and was quite taken with it :D

I saw that as well. It’s actually quite cool.
I have Mosko Moto Feckless 80.
Not had a chance to use them yet though

Pics obviously taken before I fitted the Nomad tower etc.

Worth the subs just for the entertainment out of that one thread! :D

I saw it too, and I’m a not at all sure about how it will affect the bike’s handling. Seen them before on long distance cycling (both on and off road) so I guess they must work.

The fact this one has panniers as well as the HUGE box is somewhat scary though! :blast

Had a bimble over to gear 4 yesterday for a nosy and a sit on one,
It’s a tall bike, and the suspension is really firm, almost no sag at all:confused:
I’d need to lower one by @75mm I recon.
Anyone got experience of lowering links or shock spring dropper rings?
I only ask as I once fitted links to a DRZ and it ruined the ride.
I’m thinking I’d also need to get it resprung,
