Someone needs to start a spreadsheet.
I’d suggest column headings of:
Source of recommendations
Tent, make and model
Number of recommendations
Price
Availability
Weight
Colour(s)
Size, dimensions of packed tent
Size, dimensions of sleeping area, including height
Size, dimensions of any porch or storage area
Any additional ‘must have’ features, like awning or footprint, extra strong poles, quality and number of pegs, glow-in-the-dark guy ropes. And, of course, tarps.
Has the tent been used by the person in Iceland or in Tesco’s car park or the garden at home or in Spain or never used at all, as it’s just nice to look at and dream?
Then devise some sort of scoring and weighting system. For example, would advice from Arsey outweigh advice from Outtomunch, if so by what? Is colour more important than a porch? Does the ability to pack it into a pannier (maybe at the expense of something else) trump just strapping it to the back seat? The latter may require a separate tab, as to which straps to use and even whether to put into into a bag with other stuff, like a stove, a chair, the sleeping mat, a head torch (which one) and the wet wipes. I’d suggest several tabs and maybe creating some sort of pivot table, along with a method of linking several tabs and the data they hold together. Excel is a powerful tool, use it. We have people in the office who do this stuff all day long and get paid for it; amazing when you think about it.
