BMW service North East

What's interesting here is Coopers / Vertu are my local motorrad dealer and have purchased many bikes over the years. My last purchase from them was in 2018 for a R1200GS/A Rallye which I tried to trade back in with them for the R1250GS/A.

The deal never happened as the trade in price was so bad I fell out with a particular salesman but still have emails from him stating that he was "only trying to put food on the table for his family" . I later find out that the sales team had a bonus system based on profit rather than hitting a target so it was in the salesmans interest to give shite px deals. So they will never see me buying another bike from them ever.

I've now purchased a new GSA from Bahnstormer in Alton and they are in a different league. Just straight talking no bullshit deals and are a pleasure to deal with. I don't care that they are 330miles away from me they were worth the travel.

So guys just because Coopers / Vertu are on the doorstep don't be blinkered and buy elsewhere.

YIP I AGREE.i am very close to you and i went to wolverhampton to buy my tripple balck gs

My brother in law bought a 7 month old 19 plate f850gs with 795 miles on the clock from them, he had it for 6 months and took the miles up to 2900, he also fitted Wunderlich stainless engine bars and sat nav mount, genuine BMW pannier rails and rack plus a Trekker top box.

He couldn't get on with the bike and was interested in a r1200gs that Coopers/Inchcape/Vertu had in stock so popped down to see them , got told by the salesman that they weren't interested in the 850 even though it was immaculate and wouldn't even give him a part exchange price .

This is typical of them. If they didnt want the 850GS all they needed to do was trade it out to dealers like Conways etc. So to refuse a deal where they lose a sale and more importantly another customer is crazy. Boycott them is what I say.......go elsewhere..

First dealings with Coopers or Mill as it was then was in 2002 when I bought my 1999 r1150gs (2900 miles), paid for bike and arranged a collection date, got dropped off and guess what it was not ready and needed a service . Was given a demo bike and had to come back 6 hours later ,in November in the dark to pick it up.
Only once home in the garage did I notice a nice new dent in the tank which they denied responsibilty for , 200 miles later moving bike in garage and put on rear brake, the friction material fell off rear pads (it was below 1.5mm), decided to give the bike a full check over. The sump guard nuts were seized , got them off eventually and the filter had a sticker on from M & S motorcycles the original supplying dealer stating it was changed in 2000 and due a change in 2001, plugs were originals as was the air fillter. Complained and was told by the salesman that 'It was only £8000 we would not even put a car that old on our forecourt '.

Few months later was after a System 4 lid as they did not have my size I ordered one and when I went to collect it I was handed it boxed up but the box although pristine had been opened . Insisted on opening the box in front of staff and lo and behold when I took the helmet out of the bag it was damaged with scuff marks down one side. Refused to accept it and was told that I must have done it and they would polish out. Handed it back and made them order a new helmet.

Next dealing were when I had an independant change the final drive bearings , he used genuine parts supplied by Mill ,his former employer and the main bearing failed 1000 miles later in Austria, put a claim in for the parts and was told by Mill that as they were not fitted by them there was no warranty on parts. This was of course utter bollocks but I had to get BMW Customer services involved to get a refund.

Issues with a faulty System 5 helmet again needed the intervention of BMW UK.

Next time I had dealings was 2011 by which time they were Coopers and decided to give them another go because surely they must be better, arrranged a test ride on a new r1200gsa tc, gave them a couple of weeks as they wanted to get the demo registered and have its first service, turned up and it had 7 miles on the clock ,was on trade plates and when I rode it it was shocking ,went to a garage around the corner and it had 15 psi in the front tyre , the front brake and clutch levers were not set up ie the clutch perch was tilted down and the brake up making it all but unrideable. Took it back after doing less than 10 miles. Went up to Dalkeith the following week ,tested their demo bike and ordered a new one from them.

Skip forward many years and they were then Coopers, brother in law bought the 850 from them and when I took him down to pick it up saw a on the surface very nice f800gsa , loads of extras and less than 3 years old and advertised with the approved used warranty.

Decided to give them another chance as after all it had been 8 years and it was under new management, bought the bike but then Covid hit and only rode it half a dozen times, never recieved approved used warranty docs despite chasing them up. Anyway bike was developing a slight knock , they reopen after first lockdown and I book it in for a service which included valve checks and for them to investigate the knock. They have the bike for over 2 weeks and when I pick it up they tell me they have not had time to look at the noise but it is okay to use.

By this stage BMW UK and another dealer have confirmed that there is no record of the bike under the approved used warranty scheme (despite sales staff telling me on at least 3 occasions in front of witnesses that there is ) so I put in an official complaint.

Dealer principal gets involved and they collect the bike , takes months to get it sorted due to Covid ! Turns out the bores and pistons are damaged and the bottom end bearings damaged . Not down to me as I had only done 300 miles, eventually I get it back with a new BMW crate motor fitted ,over £6000 .

Also a promise of a free 600 mile service plus a free 12 month service, bike is now fixed but still no approved used warranty paperwork and 2 other dealers still say it is not now nor never has been registered for the approved used warranty scheme.

Final kick in teeth us when the bike was due a service I was contacted by Vertu , pointed out that I was due a free 6000 mile service and was told I would have to pay as that arrangement was with Coopers.

Nice to see they are maintaining the same high standards and I will never go gack whoever ends up owning the place

this is strange as my brother has had many dealings with them and found them to be more than helpful, admittedly only over the last 5 years or so.

@Neil W: Appears you were a gluten for punishment :( This has been a warning for me never to go up there for a bike :)

I've only had dealings with Marshalls BMW of Grimsby, and they have been brill from a sales and after sales point-of-view. To the point that I picked the bike up, rode 3 miles into Cleethorpes for some Chips, and after starting the bike up after 40mins of it being parked, had a warning message to get it checked by a specialist garage. Turns out the Exhaust Flap had gone, so went back to dealer on the way home, it was safe to ride, but they collected it from me (I live 40miles from them), fixed it, and returned it to me the next day.

I don't think I'd buy a BMW bike without full warranty though (I plan on extending mine when this Approved Used one ends in 2 yrs)

Sums them up quite nicely. Maybe the new dealer principle should read these comments.

Just had Mick carry out the 18k service on my 67 plate 1200gs lc and have to say that I am very happy with the quality of the service and the value for money so roll on 24k.

Cheers,

Tony
