I've had a Shoei GT-Air for 4 years, and whenever i've been on a longer ride, my ears are very sore afterwards.

A friend suggested I go for a 'round' helmet, as my GT-Air is a long oval. (I'd just assumed all helmets were round. Silly me)

Can anyone recommend a decent flip up helmet that is more on the round side? UK websites are a bit rubbish at highlighting helmet shapes.

Thanks :thumby:

Hi, yes Helmet shapes do vary, as it happens I have a "Shoei" shaped head & having tried other brands I always return to Shoei

US site https://www.webbikeworld.com include internal shape in their reviews
They class the Shoei GT Air as "Neutral" to "Slightly Narrow".

As a yank site, some helmets reviewed are not available here, and beware of different helmet names - the full-face Shoei NXR is a RF1200 over the pond

Sportsbike shop offer a helmet test ride service, if you can find your way to one of their sites - worth considering to avoid the "wrong helmet" decision I've done previously

Does the GT Air have scallops for speakers? My old Shoei XR1100, current Neotec & new Neotect 2 have these. I find that I need to grab the chin bar and wiggle the helmet to get my ears to pop into these recesses. If I forget to do this then the helmet will begin to pinch my ear after half an hour. As long as I follow this procedure I can ride for a full tank of fuel, 180-220 miles depending on pace & terrain.

That is very useful, thanks Ajay

It does, but I still have issues even if I do the whole wiggle thing.

Best flip up I've ever had is the LS2 Valiant, they ripped off the Shark design and perfected it. Fantastic touring lid and certified for use in open face mod with the chinbar flipped right back ala Evoline.

Schuberth C3 Pro is good for round shaped heads but not the C4/C4 Pro designed to fit skinny narrow heeds

Billy’s Crash Helmets is a good resource for helmet info. https://billyscrashhelmets.co.uk/

Oh, and I am in Garstang too.

Ghostbikes in preston is open now I think. As is J&S. Raceways in Fleetwood has a good selection or even Raceleathers in Darwen.

Thanks Austin. I’d completely forgotten about GhostBikes :thumby:

If you see a 1250 Triple Black knocking around, it’s probably me
