F800 GS - Vario top case fitting and options?

On a 2017 GS with the Vario panniers/rails fitted but no top box do I just need the Vario support plate and can I fit either the GS1200 or 800 top box?

According to the BMW accessories brochure both are 25/35 litres but I have heard the 800 Vario (black) will not take a full face but 1200 top case will so I'm a little confused!

I have an ‘09 F8 GS with the Vario panniers and top box. I’m fairly sure the 1200 & 800 top boxes have different part numbers, I doubt you can use the 1200 box on the 800 rack. You can fit a full face helmet in either box.
