Could someone please advice me as to whether I can purchase a USB adapter lead to fit my Tom Tom mount lead.
I’ve included a photo of the plug I need the USB lead for. :thumb2

Do you want to power the device or do something else via the USB?

If it’s any help, the plug on the end looks like a female co-ax of some sort but the picture is no good.

I want to be able to power the device.
The wire and plug in the photo are what come connected to the Tom Tom mount. I’ve taken another better pic if that helps, thanks.

Oppps, sorry the pic is upside down.

Just been on Tom Tom “web chat”, what a complete waste of time as when asked the question all they wanted to do was sell me updated maps. :blast

How is it normally powered? Ie what lead normally connects to it and where does that lead get its power from?

A picture will assist.

The picture below shows what came supplied with my Tom Tom urban rider. I originally had the lead on the left connected directly to the bikes wiring by my local Honda dealer.
I have since sold that bike so I’ve still got the mounting unit to the right of the photo, what I’m trying to get is the lead to the left with a USB plug on the end instead of the bare wires which will allow me to use the USB socket on my new Africa Twin.
Hope this make sense Wapping.

Needs to be the 12v version also on ebay 2.1 amp but guess this is the closest if there's no plug n play option. Chop the connector ends of each lead solder & make watertight. If you wanted The longer lead section that you're missing they're £15 on ebay but Im guessing the lead will be long enough as is depending on where your USB power is?

I think the problem you have is:

A. USB socket kicks out 5 volts.

B. The cradle shown in your picture, relies on a 12 volt feed coming into it.

So it’s that lead with I think it’s a DIN plug (cigarette lighter type) plug on the other end so I can plug it into my 12v socket in the bikes cockpit.

There you have it.

Your TomTom cradle requires 12 volts and roughly 1.2 amps of input. Your 12 volt socket will supply it.

By comparison, a USB supply will allow about 5 volts and only about 500 milliamps. This is insufficient to drive the cradle and power your TomTom.

Use the USB socket to charge your phone.

You cant use the usb socket - period.
You need to buy a replacement 12v lead and then power it from that either off the battery or with a din/cigar plug
