In MCN this week ASDA Supermarket had a full page advert for their bike insurance - 'we will beat your best quote'. As mine is due in a couple of weeks I gave it a go. Following results; Renewal for next year; 169 pounds 550 excess. MCN 163 pounds 1200 excess. Current cover 151 pounds 550 excess. Confused.com 131 pounds 500 excess. ASDA 120 pounds 900 excess. All cover riding another bike plus eu cover, except MCN which didn't cover another bike but did have breakdown cover. The Confused.com and ASDA were the same insurance company. It seems to me that the Confused.com with a lower excess is the best value for money. Alan

did you see if Asda would lower the excess for a premium lower than the others?

most of those brands use the same software from https://www.vastvisibility.co.uk/ but they might have different contracts with different underwriters

have you tried the Quidco or Topcashback comparison, who use the Quotezone software?
https://www.topcashback.co.uk/topcashback-compare/ - sometimes you will get a similar price with the added benefit of a cashback

Funny that, whenever I have followed up with brokers who offer to beat your renewal or best quote, they rarely if ever beat the best deal as a combination of price, excess, NCB reduction in event of a claim, NCB protection, riding other bikes, admin fees for mid-term changes etc. Seems that not so long ago the standard excess was £250, now seems to be £400+ despite no changes in my insurance risk other than age.

By reducing the excess to 500, the ASDA came to 129, so a huge 2 pound cheaper. Alan

Tried the Topcashback site and their cheapest was 149 with 1800 (!) excess, my renewal 176 with 500 excess and the same as ASDA 197 with 500 excess. All with the cashback allowed for. So Hastings insurance through ASDA is 68 pound cheaper than Topcashback It's easy to see how you can end up paying too much, perhaps ASDA have lived up to their claim? Alan

Considering that you insure your bike annually, so the bike is a year older and therefore worth slightly less, and you have a years more riding experience and no claims, why does the premium always go up? It couldn't possibly be the insurance companies are trying to rip us off could it?

because the biggest factor that affects premiums is the size of the sums paid out. In recent years, the cost of third party, personal injury claims has outweighed any other type of claim. It's not just about you!

I also am lead to believe the BI claims due to the pandemic will have a knock effect across the industry.
