remove engine timing cover

I'm wanting to remove the timing cover to have it powder coated. 2012 R1200GS TE hexhead. Do i need to lock it in TDC prior to removal ?.
any advice gratefully received.

Yes. Just completed this job myself. Nippy normans have a locking pin for this.


It will help remove the crank pulley.

You can save money and achieve the same original BMW factory finish by going to your local 'The Works' and buying a 500ml bottle of grey poster paint.
