Had some seized stainless bolts that secured the crud catcher which snapped their heads removed by an engineering shop. The threads whilst still present are now a little slack and won’t tighten with much pressure on them, not enough to stop them coming loose anyway.

Thinking of helicoiling them- anyone else had to do this? Just making sure there is enough meat in the thread holes to be able to drill the size required to insert the helicoil.

Helicoil will be fine , just don`t increase the depth of the holes, you may need to grind the tip of the tap down if you don`t have a plug tap to suit the helicoil.
Also you may need to trim the insert to the correct length.
This is a common problem, I have done loads.

Use a slightly longer bolt with a nut behind securing it.
