I believe there is a revised side stand for the F850gs giving a more stable less upright gait. Any one fitted one? does it do the trick?

Mine is a 2020 GSA850 so I guess it already has the modified stand on.
In any event the angle of the bike on side stand is fine so I guess this answers your question.

I’ve not fitted one but I’ve seen bikes with both. The original stand is far too long and leaves the bike almost upright. The replaced stand is curved at the bottom and leans the bike over much more.
Booked in for replacement next Friday, €240 fitted, did think of getting an angle grinder to it!!
