Nav 5, Basecamp, Apple Mac Book M1. Probably a simple error on my part.

Hi,
I have looked at some of the threads, and even found one promising, but not was closed closed.
So, at the risk of ridicule, I am starting a new one.

The Kit:-
Mac Book Pro, silicon M1 Chip, up to date.
NAV 5, updated according to Express.

The Symptoms.
Using Basecamp on the Mac, is awful. Slow and clunky implementation of commands. Lots of Beachballs.
Difficult, but not impossible to get the Mac to recognise the NAV 5; when it does it is shown in Finder but not Basecamp.
Impossible to get the NAV shown on Basecamp "Devices"; thus I cannot move data back and forth between the NAV 5 and the Mac.

Apart from tearing my hair out, I have re-loaded Basecamp, re-booted NAV and Mac, tried various combinations of booting up and connecting, tried different cables, and checked up dates for Mac and Basecamp, and Maps.

As far as I see, the Basecamp is intel running on a translation programme for Mac M!; I doubt if it is a native M1 programme.

I have a feeling, not being a real Techie, that there is finger trouble at my end, and that I am doing something very basic wrong.
So, no matter how simple you think your advice is, please toss it this way.
