I've recently bought a 2008 F800GS - practically a carbon copy of the same bike I had in 2011. One thing I've noticed, and I can't remember whether my previous bike exhibited this, is:

In essence, the ignition switch body is loose. When I apply the steering lock and move the handlebars, it also moves the ignition switch. I'm not sure whether this is as-per-design so that the ignition switch does not break upon such movement or whether it has been forced in the past and requires replacing. Otherwise, everything looks OK.

Mine doesn't do that. I think it may have had the RingAntenna or steering lock changed. You will likely need a "specialist" torx bit (with hole in the middle) to tighten it. The good news is that they are dirt cheap on Amazon. (Less than a fiver for the set, I think.

What abraxas has said. Mine doesn’t do that either.

Bugger - they won't do as the hole in the middle isn't big enough :-(

Back to Google...

Nice one - thanks. In the end I replaced the bolts with standard hex bolts for £1.50
