That literally no one has been asking other than me !

Can you tour reasonably well on Ducati Streetfighter. ( more of an endurance ride)

To find out I strapped a clean pair of pants and toothbrush onto the bike and set off to find out ...

Actually a weather window opened up and with some family staying in a lodge at Dunkeld house the offer of a free bed for the night was too good to miss.

Luggage wise a change of clothes for evening attire was loosely packed into a Kriega US 30 which was too big but the 10 was too small and I didnt have a 20..

At aproximately 0912.20Hrs I left and the weather forecast was a lying bastard it was pissing it down ! Rukka waterproof leathers did what it said on the tin and I was fine and dry

25 miles up the A1 to get to decent roads and the sun came out

So my route is a bit on the barking mad side but way better and more scenic than the big roads although it does add some time and miles and not to be taken if you are time constrained - I wasn't

The screenshots are in the wrong order

The sun was shining but the roads were damp so throwing caution to the wing I stayed in street mode ( I dont have rain mode so cant reduce the BHP )

First stop Bolton Abbey tea rooms for some sustenance

Fuel range on this thing is a concern when off the beaten track. The light comes on at about 80 miles and a trip that tells you how far since it came on, there is no range indicator or fuel gauge so to speak and petrol stations are sparse on this route so I topped up at Kirby Stephen.

The bottom picture showing the routes shows that the road from Brough to Middleton in Teasdale is shut and it was but I ignored that as a bloke on a RT came down it as I got there and indicated it was passable. It is a brilliant bit of road and with it being mainly shut I had it to myself. Roads were dry so Sport mode it was and play time.
Seems the military were out on manoeuvres but I didnt get shot

Absolutely glorious going over the tops of the moors along the Spine of England

I have never seen so many sheep up there as this time and many had to be dodged

Why are sheep so stupid and never run in the direction one thinks they will

Nice one! I did a very similar route in reverse last month.

Any thoughts on a little screen for the bike yet? Am sure it will tour fine!

When you get home it would be worth checking what mileage you can do before it runs out (carry a gallon spare ). Only 80 miles till fuel warning would be annoying, especially if you're in a group with a better range.

If you get a chance, have a ride along this route to the Glenshee road. You can always carry on up to the ski centre

So having topped up the tank at Kirby Stephen I had intended to top up some more at Hexham but as I arrived in Hexham the fuel light wasn't on and the petrol station in Hexham is a PITA I decided to carry on the Jedburgh confident I would make it .....

The fuel light came on somewhere between Bellingham and Otterburn ....

I had forgotten to re set the trip 2 at Kirby Stephen so had no real idea how far I had come on that tank full but also knowing that Jedburgh is always further than you think it is

Hoping that a little rest at the border would turn the fuel light off, I stopped. It didnt !!!

HAd a little chat with some RAF bod on a Triumph explorer that I had overtaken on the run up to the border and then with fingers crossed headed to Jedburgh

Made it to the Petrol station ....

Filled the 16L tank with 14.5 L so could have gone another 10 miles or so i reckon but it was a relief i can tell you

Since i was last up this way it seems that all the towns and villages are now 20MPH ( when did this happen) Now it isnt a complaint but holding the SF to 20MPH is actually quite tricky and is mainly in 1st gear 2nd at a pinch but it is chugging so getting through long streched out places like Jedburgh is a little wearing and tense ..

Whilst the A68 has its own peculiar charms i prefer the Tourist route from Galashiels and on ward to the Dreaded Edinburgh Bypass which at the time i get there involves a considerable amount of filtering but like sand through your fingers the SF did this well and we popped over the 4th road bridge and as far up the M9 as junction 4 and a brief stop at Knockhill which looks rather lovely in the sunshine but i forgot to take a photo ...

Not to fall foul of fuel range anxiety i played it safe and topped up at Muthill, Passed through Crieff which is starting to look a bit run down and over the mountain to Dunkeld

Steak and baked spud with some nice Asparagus and a bottle of red ( 19 crimes, quite decent) into bed and sock on asleep by 2200

Knackered

346 miles done for the day

I awoke at 0703Hrs having slept like a bay ( cried and shit my self) to some beautiful weather but a slightly chilly 11 Degrees

Now to make a decision

Retrace the route home or go the long way ......

Well done on the fuel range anxiety . Please note that it's the Forth road bridge and not the 4th as it crosses the Forth estuary. Here endeth your lesson for the day........

A bit of a Ball ache being on the Motorway from Stirling but it is the only sensible option really

Stopped at a lovely little cafe along the route that clearly were Ducati fans

Also had a nice chat with a man and wife on a 1200GS and a 700 Gs respectively who were heading home to Harris !

I forgot to ask if they were inmates of this place

A few miles further along from here i had to stop again and have a discussion with a man in a BMW X5

This chap asked me how fast i was going ?

Not being stupid and not wanting to incriminate myself i told him i was doing the sped limit !

He laughed and we had a nice chat about bikes he was a biker himself and five minutes later i was on my way having been reminded that speed limits are for my safety.

He was a decent enough sort and he told me to mid the speed camera 5 miles or so up the road

There wasnt a speed camera for 20 miles so he was a Cnut but it kept me honest

MAde it to Dreghorn services for fuel

I am starting to get a little more relaxed now when the light comes on so that is a big question answered for me on fuel range for actually doing tours as opposed to big days out

Headed off on the 702 and then over the mountain to Moffat

Now IMO Moffat is the rainiest place in christondem I cant ever remember being there without rain but today it was glorious and the Streetfighter loved that road in fact it devoured it ...

Headed out to St Marys loch which is another road that the bike performed rather well on making me smile with every chump and corner

Stopped at the hut for a cuppa and was generally abused by some Highland chaps who were demanding to see my passport

Informing them that her Britannic majesty commanded their cooperation in this matter and Nicola Sturgeon could fuck herself with a Haggis we had a nice conversation about the K1300 in orange livery that one of them had. Only made in that colour for one year 2009 and was quite rare apparently. Just as i was about to leave another K1300 in Orange livery arrived so not that rare I departed and headed to Hawick and the border at Kielder

From Kielder and Hexham retraced the route from Yesterday as far as Hawes then discretion became the better part of valour and i jumped on to the A1 near Masham

Made it home in time to have missed tea but awarded myself a medal and rang the Indian takeaway. 399 miles today

In conclusion

The bike was amazing, surprisingly comfortable - not as comfy as the Multistrada but way more entertaining, it never missed a beat ! It covers miles at a very good rate

Some of the roads i used were without doubt more suited to a GS but I coped

Fuel range is no longer a doubt in my head

The bike will carry luggage although the Kriega stuff is pretty much the only real option

Tyres have also been a bit of a nagging doubt as although this was only and overnight stop the bike is on some quite sporty rubber in the Pirelli Diablo corsa 2 which are pretty much the only choice in 200/60/17 and were allegedly made for the bike.

The bike is approaching 3000 miles now on its original tyres and i think they will be good for another 1K so a 2 week jolly to spain on some new rubber will be good enough

So touring on this bike is easy enough and i know you can tour on any bike but i wanted to find out how easy or hard miles like this would be on it and it turns out pretty easy although after almost 15 hours in the sadlle over 2 days and 745 miles I am a broken man :D
